The Worst! Do not stay here.
This was the worst hotel experience my wife and I have EVER had! The hotel was old, filthy, run down, smelly and not secure. The front door was unlocked at all times, even overnight, with no one on the entry level floor. The rooms had only push button locks, no dead bolt and a flimsy hook and eye closure. The reception was one floor up from the entrance with cameras, but nothing to keep the public out or the guests safe. The entire hotel smelled of sewer and the smell in our room on the fourth floor was sickening. The bedspread was from the 1950s and was filthy. The carpet throughout the hotel was ripped, worn and filthy. The mattress was old and hard, the towels threadbare, and the carpet and drapes were nasty. After our second complaint, we were moved to a different room which was no change other than a slightly less stifling smell. The breakfast had stale croissants in a city with beautiful bakeries on every corner. No Wifi in the room, only in the lobby. The furniture in the lobby was too dirty and nasty to sit in. The hotel was not cheap, $200 per night. This is not a quaint European feel hotel. It is just a dive. There are lots of choices in this area so don't get caught in this dog. One star is too many.

Great Location with a few compromises
Room was not at all what you see in the pictures - considerably smaller. Bathroom was quite dated. Towels were very old and completely worn out. Wifi on the 5th Floor was weak and dropped off regularly. On the plus side, we were right in the heart of all the activities, sites, restaurants and shopping. Highly recommend staying in this area (Baixa). Some of the front desk folks were extremely helpful and friendly (Virgilio was great). Rooms were cleaned and restocked properly everyday. Breakfast service was excellent with plentiful selection. We liked getting a large bottle of water every day - quite useful. Will I stay here again, probably yes, but will make sure we get better room selections and facing the square.

Metropole Hotel in Lisbon.
Great location. However, I had to carry my luggage up a flight of stairs to get to front desk. The breakfast was good and the hotel employees were helpful.

The hotel was great, bed was extra firm, not what we are use too, but the amenities made up for it . Great location to walk around the city and public transport was right out front , the staff was great, willing to help out and a very good continental breakfast..
