Leela - Faded Glory
At one time the Leela was the only really fine hotel near the Mumbai airport. Although it is still a comfortable experience, it is no longer the only, nor the best in that area. Given this situation, I was surprised to find that the elderly male concierge was unpleasantly gruff and officious with my wife and I, and kept us waiting unnecessarily even though there was no one else at the desk. His demeanor suggested that he wished we would go somewhere else, which, had we not already booked the hotel, we would have done. If this was not enough, he denied us the traditional complimentary transfer to the International airport (less than a mile away), and tried to sell us hired car at almost $25.00 for the short trip from the hotel to the airport. We declined his offer. On the plus side, when we checked out, his replacement, Miss J, was not only helpful, efficient and charming, she also provided us, free of charge,a chauffeured BMW to take us to the airport. The driver made our transfer to the airline desk at the Mumbai airport (on often grueling experience) pleasant and painless. Most of the staff at the Leela were pleasant and helpful. One stand out was one of the managers of the Citrus restaurant (one of several pleasant, though seriously overpriced, restaurants at the Leela). The manager, Mr. G., was pleasant, helpful, friendly, and saw to it that the staff took excellent care of us.

Poor 2.0
I had an overall bad experience at The Leela. I was stranded at Mumbai airport, and had to quickly book a room online. I managed to find a taxi to the hotel, but had to wait for the reservation to come through. The room was confortable. The next morning, there was a long line for breakfast (included in the room rates). The service at breakfast was terrible. I ordered eggs which never came. When I went to the egg "chef", he had not even received the order. I went back upstairs, and as I was packing up, I got a shock with a man suddenly appearing at the window to clean it from the outside. So much for privacy at a 5-star hotel. Downstairs at checkout, I was presented with a bill, and asked to pay for a room I had prepaid for online the previous night. At that point, I lost my cool. A customer service agent materialized by my side, promising to fix everything. She took my phone number and email address, and promised redress. I have not heard back from The Leela in the last couple of days. The Leela has fallen a long way, and I am sure it is suffering from the numerous competitors around the Mumbai airport. I will never stay here again.

Great staff but disappointing experience
The good - most staff (not all) is polite, attentive and helpful. Decent gym. Buffet spread is good and food quality is generally decent. The bad - food and dining options are ridiculously expensive by Mumbai standards. Not ideal for dining in. Traffic on the road directly outside the hotel is so bad you need to budget at least 1 hour to go anywhere in a 2-3 km radius. Not ideal for a business traveller. Hotel and rooms are a bit dated. There was a huge red stain on my room curtains left by a previous guest. Housekeeping opened and closed the curtains for 4 days (turn down service as well) but did nothing to remove the stain. Tried using the hot water kettle only to find it leaking from the base. Best part - there was a huge live cockroach in my bathroom on the last day to bid me farewell. It was disgusting. I had to throw away my toothbrush as i had kept it in the bathroom. Even if this is a one-off incident, this is just not acceptable by 5 star hotel standards and for the rate The Leela charges. Basic hygiene and cleanliness is the least a guest would expect. The staff was very apologetic and even offered a room upgrade (subject to availabililty) on my next visit but i might consider going to an international chain the next time round.

Old hotel with terrible staff who doesn’t care
1. Poor checkin experience, couldn’t find my expedia booking 2. Made us wait at least an hour outside the room because lock was not working. Had to walk myself 3 times to reception to catch their attention to send some one to fix the lock and open the door for us even though staff was aware of the issue 3. Horrible breakfast with flies all around. Unhygienic, multiple mosquitoes/flies in the food 4. Overpriced room service food 5. Old rooms with construction going on throughout the hotel. Had to ask them to stop all the noise at 8 PM otherwise would have gone on into the night 6. Only saving grace is the large grounds and access to beach, but this exists in multiple resorts in Goa, so would suggest to skip this one and choose a newer and better property

Sub standard service
I wouldn’t stay here again. Lack of facilities, lack of customer service . Didn’t enjoy my stay and wouldn’t stay here again. The room had damp smell, basic amenities like dental kit, iron weren’t provided . I had to ask a few times and the staff (some of them ) are quite rude . I had to politely request for the concierge three times to come and help me with luggage and had to wait 45 minutes yet no one turned up. The staff at the breakfast buffet in the morning lack great customer service but the manager is amazing . The staff would let you float around and wouldn’t bother asking you for tea/ coffee or anything . You have to catch their eye or attention to ask for anything. Over all this place has lost its charm and I wouldn’t go back to stay. Loved my stay at the Trident and that’s where I’d want to come back again. This hotel lacks the 5 star hotel charm and lacks good customer service !
