winter holiday in NYC for 31 nights
Firstly, we are a family of three from Australia and this was our third trip to NYC in winter. We had to do two bookings thru Expedia the first for 14 nights and the second for 17 nights. We stayed for 31 consecutive nights so we could relax and enjoy NYC at our own pace. On arrival with our 6 luggage bags the staff of The Gregory immediately sprang into action and assisted with unloading the taxi, later we realised the help came from the barman (Phil). This was a great first impression. Check in was quick and easy, thanks to James and Victor at the front desk. We stayed in room 1006 with two queen beds. good size bathroom and plenty of hanging and storage space for all our winter jackets and clothing. A small bar fridge was also appreciated. The room was quite spacious by NYC standards, with a partial view of the Empire State building. The central heating seemed excessive at first, however we managed our comfort levels by opening the bathroom window and removing our warmer layers of clothing. The bathroom was good sized with pump soap, shampoo and lotion amenities. In the morning, complimentary tea and coffee is provided in the lobby. we took full advantage of this service and a big thank you to Jasmine who worked the bar area in the mornings. Another nice touch was the fruit infused iced water available thru out the day, cucumber and mint was a favorite. Overall the highlight were the amazing and friendly staff. Thanks also to Bogdan , Brian and the ladies on front desk.

Do NOT Stay Here
I travel a lot and by far this was one of the worst hotels I've ever stayed at. I cannot stress enough to not stay at this hotel. The majority of the items in my room did not work (TV, safe, lights). The radiator did not work during the coldest week of the year when the temperature was in the 20s and had to be serviced for hours, only to make a very loud noise all throughout the night like it was going to explode and leak water and soak about half the carpet in the room. The toilet frequently got clogged and had to be unstuck twice. The worst, however, was the service. The hotel had no guest services and all requests for help had to be made to the front desk, whom never relayed the messages to the maintenance staff. I personally called 9 times in the space of 12 hours for the dangerously leaking radiator and the various things that needed to be repaired, only to be told that they were on their way and never have them show up. The maintenance crew themselves would tell me that they were never relayed messages to go to my room (which only happened when I personally went to the manager and complained) and that this is a frequent occurrence in this hotel. I was booked for 6 nights but requested my stay be cancelled less than 24 hours after checking in and for a full refund. I without a doubt highly recommend you do not stay here.

Very Unhappy
I would not recommend staying at this hotel. My interaction started with calling the hotel to inquire about a room upgrade, when I asked if there were any upgrades available for us the man on the phone only asked what type of room my reservation for and simply replied "no". Let me get this clear- I am fine without an upgrade but this man was very rude and did not ask me anything about when my reservation was. How would he know there is nothing avaialable if he doesn't even know the time frame I am looking for? I asked him to please check the dates and he found that there actually was an upgrade available the week of our reservation. We came in on a red eye and called a week prior to our reservation asking if they could accommodate an early check in, they informed us it would be best to call upon arrival and they should be able to accommodate us. Upon arrival I called and the woman on the other end of the phone acted like she was offended by what I was asking. I informed her of what they had directed me to to the week prior and she could only tell me "check in is at 4pm". When we got to the hotel around 10am the same woman who was on the phone greeted us very unkindly and said "oh, I spoke with you on the phone" with an attitude and offered me NO solutions. The poor bell man working with her took our bags and we came back around noon to try again, at which point we were checked. The issues did not end here. I still have not received a receipt for the charges on my card.

Gregory Weekend
I came here for a business trip and it was a very great choice. The hotel staff is extremely kind and accommodating. When we got to our room, we noticed that because it had been raining so much, there was a leak by the edge of the window and the hotel staff moved us into a better room immediately. Brian, Mavelle, Alba, our friendly bag man (who I didn't get the chance to catch the name of) were all such wonderful parts of my weekend. They held my bags for most of the day so I could work (I checked in twice after deciding I wanted to keep staying at this hotel--originally I was only going to stay one night) and I was even able to get a second upgrade to a king size bed which was a sweet surprise. The hotel itself is located in the Herald Square area which made it very easy to get to a lot of places. I walked most of the time and when I did need an Uber or cab, the trips were between 10-15 mins. Only thing that kind of trips you up is the mandatory service fee of $40 for two bottles of water in the room and one cup of coffee or tea at the hotel restaurant, also I had some random $60 I was charged after my first night stay but the staff told me I would be receiving that credit back in a couple days--no biggie. I have to come back to the city in March for another trip similar to this one and I plan on staying at the Gregory again. Would definitely recommend to a friend.

Cute & unique boutique hotel in great location!
The Gregory is a very charming boutique hotel, especially among the sea of generic chains available in NYC. While seemingly small from the street, the rooms appear to be quite large, especially by New York standards. I was in a Standard King room, but there was nothing standard about the size. I had a lot of room, and more natural light than I have ever had before staying in this city. There was an abundance of windows. Being around 130 years old, the room had a 'grand' feel about it, but I was disappointed it wasn't better decorated or appointed. Some of the furniture appeared new or recently redone (the chair, desk, and lamps were all in great shape), some of the other furniture had seen better days, and most of the walls were just begging to have something hung on them. The bathroom, while a standard NYC size (small), was excellently refurbished and was very nice. My biggest issue in the room was the radiator. It was either terribly hot or off. Apparently, individual rooms cannot be turned off (although different employees had different answers to this). The only option I had was to use the AC to counteract the very aggressive radiator. A lovely employee assured me they were working very hard to fix this for the future. And the topic of staff, I found most of them to be quite friendly. More of a casual setting here, which I liked. There are no bells and whistles here, but the hotel is charming and the location is absolutely perfect.
