Exceptional 10.0
Excellent Hotel, Professional Staff (on Lost Item)
The great location (2 nearby subway stops; 10 min walk to Central train station, 20mins walk to Duomo), cleanness, and good continental breakfast. But it was an incidence at the end of our trip that really made NH Milano Touring stand out. We checked out and forgot two expensive jackets in the hotel room close, only to realize it after we already checked in our luggages at the airport. While panicking, we immediately called the hotel and had the staff notifying housekeeping to look our jackets. We were then instructed to send them an email for the record, as different staff members might pick up our calls. With no chance to go back to the hotel ourselves, we didn't have much hope to get them back, since we understand that hotels are usually not responsible for any items left in the room once you checked out. If housekeepking says they didn't find anything, there's really nothing we can do. But to our relief, the staff notified us they were able to find our jackets and would mail them back to us in the US! So we successfully got the jackets back three days after we got back from the trip. The staff at NH Milano Touring has always been friendly, responsive and professional in handling this matter. I know it was our own mistake to have left the jackets behind, but things like this do happen during travels. So during stressful times like this on a trip (especially to a foreign country), a reliable hotel is what travelers really need and appreciate.

This hotel is nicely located and generally clean. The standard room is small with little amenities (no kettle or free drinking water) but clean with modern furniture. My short stay was ruined by painfully loud construction onsite starting from 7am. Never in my life have I been woken up by such loud construction, especially in a hotel, they should not sell the rooms located near the noise. The combination of drilling and banging woke everyone in the room up twice between 7 and 8am, so I was forced to wake up after only 5 hours sleep and go to the reception to complain. The receptionist suggested that we get ready and go out for the day and upon our return they will have a replacement room away from the construction ready for us. When paying to stay somewhere, surely it is my choice when to sleep or relax in the room and when to go out? When I refused, she forwarded me to her manager who immediately upgraded us to a VIP suite away from the noise. VIP was hardly anything special and I certainly would not have been happy if I had paid for such an upgrade. The VIP rooms have bottled water and kettles with tea and coffee (which I believe all rooms should have as a bare minimum) and the beds were only very slightly bigger than that of the standard room. Oddly, the furnishing in the VIP room was very dated and less clean in comparison to the standard room. I am still giving 3* as the hotel is 'nice', but being woken by painfully loud construction onsite was unforgivable.

Not The Best Bang For Your Buck
For starters, I was under the impression that this hotel was in the City Center. It was not. It was still a bit of distance to the City Center. There are a few shops or eateries nearby but you will end up probably Ubering everywhere you need to go. Upon check-in, the staff saw that my mother was with me and attempted to charge me an additional per person fee. I explained to the staff that I booked a room with two beds and was not aware of the additional per person charge. After a brief back and forth, the check-in agent said that since I was a VIP guest of Expedia that he would upgrade my room and we would be square. I agreed and continued with check-in. The room itself is nothing to write home about. The walls were quite dirty and full of black scuff marks. There were several flying insects that I killed during my stay in the bathroom and hiding under my lampshade. The breakfast was cold and limited. When I checked out, the staff told me there was a mysterious tax per person, per day. They did not communicate this to me at check-in and Expedia did not have this listed as a fee. I paid, and left my luggage their as I explored the city a bit before my flight. When I returned to collect my luggage, the hotel said that they forgot to charge me the additional fee for bringing my mother as a guest and wouldn't return my luggage to me until I paid the fee. This was an awful experience and it seemed almost like extortion the way they collect fees.

Poor 2.0
Don’t be fooled by the photos. I’ve stayed here for 7 years, 4 times a year (all for work simply out of convenience). Below is what I’ve experienced in 7 years 1. Most recently I was charged $100 in additional minibar expenses that I didn’t use(unfortunately I didn’t notice until it was too late and the hotel will not respond or acknowledge calls/emails) 2. My coworker got bed bugs TWICE 3. Another coworker was robbed while we were out to dinner; all of her vintage jewelry, iPad etc and the hotel did nothing to help. They even refused to look at security cameras 5. After checking in, I left my bag with the front desk for the day only to come back and find out they “lost my bag”. It took them 3 hours to find it, randomly in a back office/room. Again refusing to look at security carmeras. Shame on me for dealing with this for 7 years out of convenience, however, this hotel takes zero accountability when something goes wrong and guests should be aware.

Very Good 8.0
Good hotel in a central location
A very well priced, clean and comfortable hotel in a good part of town. The room was very clean and modern and it took under 20 minutes walk to visit some of the best tourist attractions. The hotel was also less than 5 minutes walk away from the Metro station that connects you to central station in one stop or the Duomo in a few stops. The check in process was quite long and for those that didn't take advantage of express check out the night before, had to wait in a long queue to pay. We fortunately did do express checkout, however instead of a disabling the keys at noon which is the advertised check out time, they disabled the keys at 10am. That was a little annoying. Apart from those things that hopefully the hotel can improve, it's a nice hotel which I recommend.
