Stanley Hotel, Estes Park
Very Good8.0
The hotel is beautiful and located in a beautiful part of the World. It is regarded as a historic hotel and there are tours run throughout the day and into the evening - the latter include the the corridors passing the bedrooms. The WiFi is poor which should be borne in mind if you need to keep up with work whilst staying here.

We had a rough check in experience. If you are booking this hotel for the historic property and appeal - make sure you do NOT book an "Aspire King Room". This was our option on and we did not realize that this is a new building built in 2015. You will not be staying in a historic part of the property. Upon arrival at our room, it was open and not made up or ready for a new customer. There were communication difficulties between the Aspire lobby staff and the main hotel staff and it took another 20 minutes to get our new room. Once settled - the room was nice. The bathroom was large and modern and the bed was comfortable. The room was small and lacking the kitchonette that was promised at check in - but, we had a fine stay. It just wasn't the stay we intended on having when booking at the Stanley.

A nice place to visit but not to stay over.
On a positive note, the history tour and restaurant were very good. Unfortunately, the rest of the stay was not pleasant. Our first interaction with the the check in desk was not at all welcoming. We were then directed out of the building to another complex requiring a small drive. The room was more of a hallway then a room. Garrett, the manager called the next morning to see why we had not left high marks for our check in. He then offered an upgrade to a ‘“master room.” This was to be ready in 90 minutes. We then packed up and brought our luggage back to the desk and had to leave it. Room was not available for over four hours (of note, the desk had no idea what was going on). We took the tour and had lunch while waiting. We returned to the desk to learn we were going back to the the other complex (where we started from). This room was laid out better but was about the same size. Instead of getting upset, we settled in. The next day we went into the Rocky Mountain National Park. When we returned our keys did not work and apparently two calls were made on my cell phone without messages. Housekeeping let up in reluctantly. We were then told someone from the main office would come down (again off site). At this point, we decided to leave since the weekend had been anything but relaxing and we really didn’t want to have to pack and unpack again to just get up and do it again in the morning.

Not worth it :(
I have never stayed at the Stanley before and was very excited. I booked a room at the Stanley called the aspire thinking that was the room name. Turns out it’s another hotel which is across the street :/ The confirmation even said that I was staying at the Stanley. I was very disappointed and felt tricked. It was not worth the pretty penny that I paid for the room. Our keys didn’t work one night and we got stuck outside our room for 30 minutes because there was no one on premise to help with any issues at night time. They are all at the main hotel. Very nice people but very poor service. I would not recommend staying here.

Historic but not in great condition. Go tour!
The Stanley is simply old and falling apart in areas. This may be on purpose for the lore of being haunted and is still fun to visit for historical purposes. We had our windows open (had to hold them open with a trashcan) in order to keep the room cool but we only managed to get it to 73 degrees despite it being 32 outside! The heater is on the floor which you must manually disassemble to turn off via a small metal switch. The bed was quite old and sagging. There are metal screws sticking out from the bed frame and coming off the windows. I would recommend the tours and exploring, but I won't be returning to stay the night.
