HORRIBLE!! PEOPLE DO NOT IGNORE THE BAD REVIEWS-THERE FOR A REASON!! where do i start?? Immediately upon arriving parking was very confusing. Walk down hallway looking for our room and hear LOUD PARTYING coming from somewhere, mind you this is at 1 a.m. come to find out the party room is right next door to ours so I made it we got upset and went inside the hotel and call the operator and said look me in my family are tired and it is Extremely Loud there's a party going on next door is a bunch of people. The front desk guy seemed so concerned (not) he said okay I will send security up there and I listen to the security went to the door and was actually laughing and giggling with him needless to say did nothing they turn the music back up and continue to party so I called the front desk back and complained this time with an attitude (naturally) he said ok fine well put you in another room.. (i guess so they can continue to party?) I had also told them we booked 2 QUEEN BEDS- THESE WERE NNOOTT QUEEN THEY WERE FULL SIZE. I am not stupid and my family we own from every way to a twin of into a king so I know what size of queen bed is and by the grace of God he knows im not lying-.THESE WERE NOT QUEEN. The guy said umm well we have them listed as queen.. NO FRIDGE, NO MICROWAVE, which was listed on internet. (We came from 5 hrs away) noisy , you hear everything!! Including the housekeeper who starts cleaning at like 6 a.m. and brings the vacuum on the outside of your door. 400$ !!

It was ok
It was great but people kept slamming the door and loud but rather than that the workers were helpful with our suitcase

Old Hollywood.
I loved the old Hollywood ambience of the sportsman’s lodge. This is not a chic, modern style hotel. Rooms are large, the pool is very nice with a lot of action near the bar. The food at the coffee shop was very good. It has a great valley location. But it feels a little tired. Overall, I would stay there again.

Nice, comfortable place. Older place too. I'd stay there again.

Room for improvement, but overall a good stay
I was a little hesitant about booking this place based on all the low reviews, but the price and location were what we needed, so I took the plunge for a 2 night stay. I have to say, we had a very good experience, I think a lot of the negative reviews are over the top visceral reactions to things that are really minor. It is an older place, and the walls are paper thin. The staff was super friendly and check in was easy. Location is great for Universal Studios with a free shuttle, and easy access to Hollywood. Lots of good restaurants in the immediate area. Grounds were clean, had an in room safe which I like, the television cable choices were weak, the sliding glass door had no screen and no security latch, which I didn't like. The food was very good. There were tons of kids whose parents let them run amok at the pool, so that was kind of lame, but not really the hotels fault. Two different rooms directly off the pool were having parties which included people smoking weed on the balcony and very loud noise, I guess it's ok for some crowds, but not really for family friendly. The pool towel racks were empty every time we went out there, but the staff refilled them when we alerted them to it. Very comfy beds, clean room, cool 50's styling all around. We enjoyed it overall as a 4. With very little work, and maybe some guest behavior control, this place could easily have been a 5.
