Fire Alarms
Fire alarms went off in our room at about 6:45 AM scaring family. Informed front desk in person - no staff showed to investigate. Second time, phoned in with the alarm blaring in the background and someone showed up to change out the alarm. No other discussion from hotel about this.

Blue light special
This hotel, while once long ago a grand place needs desperately a makeover. The lobby is nice, then you try the elevators, which sometimes work and look horrible, then you go down a hall that looks straight out of a horror movie. The lighting is AWFUL in the halls, in the room and the bathroom, making everyone looking like a ghost. I am sure they are trying to be energy conscious but they need 3000-4000K LED bulbs, not 6000K ( very blue light). This place is ripe for a takeover and I hope soon. The carpet has not been changed since cigarettes were banned, and reeked of smoke. There are so many things I could review, but I am trying to be nice.

Historic Hotel in a convenient area
Wonderfully close to many things, Art Museum, Riverwalk, Theatre District, etc, etc, etc., so easy to walk everywhere. Hotel is classic and historic, with a truly spectacular lobby area. We parked our car and walked everywhere. If we had wanted to go somewhere further we would have used public transportation which was also very close by. Our room was fine and updated nicely for a historic facility. We had a king with plush linens. Bathroom was somewhat updated, but probably needed a bit more more. Ex, the toilet was low, tub was on small side and with shower doors so had to be extra caution getting in and out. Room faced the side, but we still had a view of both Michigan Ave. and Grant Park . It was also nicely quiet, so easy for us to sleep in a bit. It was very comfortable for us and we would go back again.

Made a good choice all around.
It's an excellent location. Walking distance to many things, theaters, restaurants, and Museums. Short cab rides if you're not a walker. Busses run along Michigan Ave. frequently and the CTA helps you get on the right bus. Great Bar area for a night cap after the show, or an appetizer and drink before the show.
