Great location for Acropolis and local food
This was a great place to stay if you are seeing the sites. We had a room with a view of the Acropolis/Parthenon. It is an easy, although uphill, walk to see the Acropolis and the new Acropolis Museum. It is also close to multiple city tour bus lines. We turned in the rental car prior to our stay in Athens knowing there was no parking and how much congestion there is in the city. Do not count on street parking near the hotel. The hotel staff was very friendly. The room was large, we had a balcony with a view of the Parthenon. It was quiet in the hotel even when outside was noisy. The room has a small closet, not much space to unpack your things except for your hanging clothes. We did not try the hotel restaurant as the dishes were not to our liking. Instead, we simply walked out of the hotel and down the street and found many small welcoming places from small cafes to more expensive restaurants. The staff at the eating stops are very friendly and you won't have a problem finding a place. If you go up the hill there is a great place for lunch that serves Sparta beer. The owner, George, was very friendly, and we had wraps and sandwiches, all very reasonable. We had one small problem being greeted by a friendly older local man who was really just trying to scam us into a bar with high priced drinks and women too eager to get you to stay. Otherwise, the people were very nice and friendly. We preferred our time outside Athens but enjoyed our stay in Athens here.

Comfortable Hotel with Excellent Staff
We have stayed at the Herodion before and decided it would make an ideal venue for an Athens Winter break between Christmas and the New Year. The Herodion is conveniently located just minutes from the Acropolis Museum (a must-see), more of the ancient monuments, the Acropolis Metro line station (an all- day all-transport ticket is just €4.50 at the time of writing), Plaka with its numerous lanes to wander around and a good selection of restaurants within easy distance. Also, for those planning a longer visit there is a handy little shop to get milk, teabags etc. just two minutes from the Hotel on Kariatidon Street (up the hill, turn left onto Kariatidon, down the hill and it’s on the corner) Other reasons we decided upon the Herodion was the excellent breakfasts (home-made loukoumades and cakes) and the friendly staff – oh, and the roof garden where there is a cracking view of the Acropolis. The rooms appear to have been done up since we last visited and we had selected one with a balcony, a King size bed and an Acropolis view which looks down onto the dining room (more of that later) and also onto a school at the back (always a source of entertainment). The beds are certainly king size and are very comfortable. There was plenty of storage which is good because there is a trend for hotels to go minimalist and reduce the amount of storage space (I guess because most people tend to stay at similar hotels in Athens and other cities for only a day or two). The bathroom space ha

Take the great location with the bad
My wife and I were happy with the Hotel's quality, but there were definitely some drawbacks. I will try to be fair. First the hotel is in a prime location with a great view of the Acropolis as you can see in the pictures. It is perfectly within walking distance of everything right in the middle of town. Great Service! The roof makes for perfect pictures, especially at night when it's all lit up, however...the roof was under construction so for the most part that was a no go. Then our room had a great view of the Acropolis because I paid a little more for the view, which was great...except the Air conditioning was blowing hot air in our room. Typically no worries, we just propped the door open and let some cool air in from outside. We try not to be too hard on hotels, especially on insignificant stuff like that. However the problem came in the morning when we discovered that right next door to us was not only construction taking place right outside the door that woke us up at 0635, but there is also an entire elementary school (blog pictured below acropolis) worth of kids that are screaming at about the same time. What a nightmare to wake up to! And none of that was mentioned in the description at all! The walls also happen to be paper thin so the bunch of college aged guys that were up drinking half the night because it was spring break didn't help. Maybe that's our fault for not thinking that its mid-March and tons of spring breakers would be there. Bad planning on our part.

Overrated
Selected this hotel for its higher rating and advertised views and amenities. The Herodion was listed on hotels.com as a 4 star hotel, however the amenities, comfort, ambience, and view were much more that of a 2.5-3.0 hotel. Actually I have stayed at other hotels in Athens (with lesser ratings and prices) which were much nicer. The room was uncomfortably warm. It seems the air is regulated by one central hotel thermostat so guests have no control over the temperature. Bedding was down right uncomfortable, the mattress was no more than an 2-3 inch mattress topper on a wooden bed frame (photo attached). They advertise proximity to and views of the Acropolis of which they had neither - even from the rooftop bar views were minimal (photo of the view from our room attached). Again I had better views of the Acropolis from less expensive 3 star hotels. Breakfast buffet very basic. I will not be returning to the Herodion, for the money I received better food, service, comfort, views, and convenient location at the lesser priced/rated Central Athens Hitel and that's where I'd recommend you stay.

Wonderful hotel, in a great location
Wonderful hotel in a wonderful place, right next to the Acropolis Museum. Great view of the Parthenon from our balcony. Lovely clean rooms, clean spacious bathroom, Housekeeping came round twice a day to make sure everything was ok. Hotel staff were lovely and friendly with a wealth of knowledge of what to do in the surrounding areas. Breakfast was great - lots of choice - and freshly squeezed orange juice which was very tasty. The roof terrace and spa pools are wonderful too - too cold in February to use - thought the Jacuzzis were heated. They have a fabulous views over the roof tops up to the Parthenon and Acropolis. Definitely recommend this hotel to anyone - some lovely restaurants just around the corner too, Metro stop just around the corner as well.
