Victorian shouldn't mean "outdated".
Had great hope for this hotel. I thought I was in the 3-star price range for SF and, although I know older hotels tend to have less polish than newer ones, I expected the room to be cleaner than it was. The bed was not comfortable at all. There were stains/marks on the walls that looked like they could have been easily dealt with by a bit of scrubbing or a fresh coat of paint. We had one window that opened to an alley. Perhaps a fan would have helped with airing out the room. Then, the bathroom. Mold. There was mold, black mold in the shower. No vent fan in the bathroom, but there was a heater, which likely compounded the issue. I am sure that the desk would have changed our room if I had complained but I don't complain. I've lived through worse but a review is a review. The hotel needs updating or maybe a complete reno, which will likely raise prices. But, with the romance of a true Victorian building and the Queen Anne's location, I'd gladly stay again, even at 50% higher prices, IF it was cleaner and more updates. The concierge was very pleasant and helpful. And, kudos to every one that reminded us to remove EVERYTHING from the car before parking as the parking lot is across the street yet unsecured, and there is evidence all over the ground that the prowlers are active.

Historic Hotel
The Queen Anne is an amazing old Victorian era building- a former School for Girls way-back. The decor is HEAVY Victorian, which some people find charming indeed. However, as a result of it's original character most all the room and public furnishings are original Victorian too, which comprise exclusively of broken down chairs and sofas, cabinets, rugs and windows... Sadly it's condition is just beyond charmingly shabby, and as a result- uncomfortable. All The Queen Anne needs is an infusion of $, and TLC repairs. The staff is Wonderful and friendly. The location is great- the self park is handy and affordable- a generous breakfast is provided.

Dirty and noisy
Pulled back the covers to go to bed, and discovered used tissues (yuck!) in bed, clearly showing they had NOT changed sheets, but just re-made bed after last guest. They transferred me from my deluxe room to a shoebox. Neither room was clean.

Beautiful, Victorian style hotel
The hotel is a gem! It's haunted, so they say. We walked the hotel at night just to take in all the amazing art and antique furniture. It felt like being transported back in time. If you can stay here, I highly suggest it!
