booked the club room but were absolutely disappointed by the variety and quality of food and beverages provided at the 16th floor lounge and cafe on lvl 1. The juices were just cordial diluted water. When I asked for fresh juice, it was watermelon fruit diluted with alot of water and it didnt taste fresh at all. We were also appalled when the eggs station served us scrambled eggs with powdered cheese and enoki mushroom instead of mozzarella cheese and brown button mushrooms which are almost always a standard at the chain hotels. The 16th floor lounge served the scrambled eggs with a cold shrivelled half tomato and 2 hash browns which were obviously left there for some time and stale. The fried food were also cold and soft. We have stayed at hotel jen in jb before and the quality of food drinks and service were so much better. I'm sure as a shangrila brand, jen penang can do much much better. The room was decent size and cleanliness was fair. The shower head in room 1619 had black dirt stuck in the rim. When we stepped out of the lift on lvl 16, a stench (probably mix of food and trash) greeted us. We shld have just booked for normal room without any breakfast and club facilities. On the positive side, the dine in room service food - seafood hor fun was really tasty with wok hei and had a hearty portion. One of the best I tried in penang. We also ordered the wanton noodle and carbonara pasta and they were average.

Fantastic & Will Be Back
Fantastic & will stay at Hotel Jen again. Location: 10 to 15 mins walk to most of the food places (eg New Lane food stalls & Chendol at food st) to try. Easily accessible via cab. Hotel was able to help arrange day-tour cab which was very much welcomed given the hot weather Room: Spacious & very well maintained. Stayed in a room for 3 pax & the sofa bed was actually comfortable. Toilet is clean & well maintained. Breakfast: Did not disappoint. Wide variety with good local cuisine available too. The DIY noodle station was a favourite as they provide options such as loh mee & curry mee. Dinner: We went for their Seafood Buffet Dnr & it was fantastic. The seafood options were basic but there were other food such as grilled fish & lamb chop, & pasta section where the chef will cook on the spot for you. Desserts such as cake & cendol were also available. The best part was the service. The crew were attentive & took care of us. Service: Everyone was friendly and helpful, and you can see that they take pride in their job. It was a birthday celebration trip for my dad and they even surprised us with a lovely cake. Totally appreciate the thoughtfulness!

Decent hotel with great location
Overall a very good hotel, but with a few letdowns. Housekeeping was not as efficient, so delayed check in timing. When I entered my room, there was a huge puddle of water on the floor, caused by water leakage from the a/c duct. Could have been avoided entirely, but kudos that the clean up was done quickly after reporting. The room I got had access to the Club House on the 16th floor and I wanted to have a peaceful breakfast there and continue my work after-which. However, the keycard that I was issued just didn't seem to work. So I went to the reception to have it changed. I decided to just have my breakfast at the main cafe after all since I was already at the first floor. Unfortunately, instead of being greeted, I was rudely informed that breakfast will be closed in 30 mins time, where I clearly had over 45 mins before it is supposed to be really closed. Not sure if I was biased because of the bad attitude, but the food didn't taste as well as to expectations. On the lighter note, the room is pretty clean and comfortable and had plenty of bathroom amenities. The best thing, is the location, right in the heart of GeorgeTown and it's easy to travel to many great cafes, restaurants, eateries and hangouts either by foot or by Grab. With all due respect, I would still consider staying at Hotel Jen again when I get back to Penang.

Currently undergoing renovation!
I thought I’d scored a great deal - rate of slightly more than $50 - for a one night stay at Hotel Jen Penang. Hotel Jen is a sub brand of the upscale Shangri La hotel that is supposed to be hip and modern. Immediately upon check in around noon I learned why rates at this very well located hotel (just outside of the historic Georgetown city center) which practically share a huge building with the Penang KOMTAR - a transportation hub, retail and food outlets, administrative offices rolled into one huge complex - that houses the former 2nd tallest tower in Asia: the property is undergoing a massive renovation. I felt very disappointed and even cheated that nowhere during the booking process that this fact was made clear to prospective clients. I think both Orbitz and the hotel management dropped the ball here. I found my room was still not ready after being told to come back at the hotel’s official check in time of 2PM, so after waiting 15 more minutes I was glad to finally be able to walk into my room on the 11th floor where upon exiting the elevator I was immediately greeted by loud construction noise. I personally think that works of this magnitude where sitting in your room between 10AM to 6PM is the equivalent of sitting in an active construction zone with CONSTANTLY LOUD banging noise warrant a total closure of the property. The room itself was lovely (lots of power outlets!) as it’s newly renovated. Bathroom is a bit small but well stocked with amenities.

A fusion of modern-classic kind of hotel. Many insta-worthy photo location in the hotel. Room was alright, amenities was pretty and adequate. Water pressure and shower head option was good. Bidet toilet was good too. Cleanliness was not too bad. TV channels a little bit limited and grainy. Breakfast was the key highlight- wide variety and service standard was top notch, from serving you drink as soon as you sit to greeting you when you pick your food. PressReader was good though I hope they have a note in the room for first timer. In-room food was worth it. Area of improvement would be the bell boy/guy zero help from him from baggage to doors etc.. Garden a little dull could add more plants or flowers but pool, gym, spa, hot bath seems good and clean. Wifi was also good. Hotel location is close to everything- surrounded by shopping malls. Easy to get private hire or taxi. If you are not staying, you can just come by and try their lobby cafe. Overall was a pleasant stay and overheard many other hotel guest mentioning that their past great experience with Hotel Jen- Shangri-La made them come again.
