Very Good8.0
Older Hotel, bad wifi
Ok Hotel in the heart of Birmingham. Huge construction project next door though! Wifi did not work in my room. Had to go to front desk and they redirected me to a site which had wifi.

Copthorne Hotel
The hotel and it's people were very friendly and comfortable. It is in the center of things, near the Art Gallery, theatres, and restaurants. It's not far from the train station.

Overdue for renovation by at least 20 years!
The hotel is well located, but is extremely dated. The bathroom was especially bad, with a shower that would either scald or freeze (very sensitive, laggy, adjustment). Whilst certain items have been updated (carpet), most haven't. The bathroom sink installation looked like something out of the 70s, but the bath looked more recent. There is no A/C (a free-standing fan was provided), no free internet access (WiFi was 5 GBP per day for a slow connection), expensive and limited parking. I've stayed in many basic (cheap) hotels that were significantly better. I also know that this brand can do better, e.g. their Sheffield hotel, where I'm writing this using free WiFi, with my car in the free parking.

This hotel is not good! Firstly it's so difficult to find with the amount of roadworks and diversions and road closures. We eventually abandoned the car in random car park and walked to the hotel lugging our bags! Check in was quick thankfully after driving around for an hour! We went to the room, the Woodman Suite. Entering the lounge area it smelled foisty and it was like stepping back in time! Decor and carpet was seriously dated probably back to the 80's! The bedroom was similarly hideous horrible dark furniture and the headboard on the bed was an absolute sight to behold! The bedding and towels were immaculately clean however. Phew! The bathroom although large had a cream coloured jacuzzi bath with a shower over it, that had the most vile shower curtain I've seen! The "marble" sink unit and floor tiles also were hideous! The was no air-conditioning so it was boiling hot and windows couldn't be left open as it was noisy from the traffic on the busiest road through Birmingham. There was no lights next to the bed and you had to get out of the bed to turn the lights off. Plug sockets were an issue too and there was a four way adapter provided! There was NO hairdryer! Why?? I have to say however, the bed was comfortable and although the room was ridiculously hot, we didn't sleep badly. Although we'd paid for breakfast we didn't have the queue was too big! I should have booked the Premier Inn and I'd recommend you do too!
