Mecenate Palace, Rome
Very Good8.0
Third time charming
Third time here, so it's a keeper. Very comfortable, staff is friendly. Free breakfast is wonderful, but this time we were taking a flight that was earlier than the breakfast starts. We were given a bag breakfast to go, which was perfect. This is not my favorite part of Rome, but the hotel is close to the train station.

Outdated hotel with no temperature control
The hotel is outdated- there was carpet that never looked clean, cloth walls with a bad odor, and despite telling front desk it was too hot and to lower the temperature of the air conditioning- we never got comfortable as it was very hot in Rome this summer. Breakfast was okay - our female server didn’t let us know there was an option to get espresso or cappuccino until we saw from another table. I cannot remember the last time I stayed in a 4 star hotel that had carpet on the floor or so much odor in the room from the wall cloth (I can’t say wallpaper because it was made from cloth) and from old carpet. The area is close to Termini train station and restaurants in Monti neighborhood. It felt safe and ahort walk to Colosseum and Trevi Fountain. Air conditioning is controlled by front desk which is why the numerous requests for a cooler temperature was not met. We did like the rooftop terrace and view.

Near Train Station, Overall Great Hotel
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. It is conveniently located near the main train terminal. Buffet breakfast is excellent compared to other hotels in Italy. They start you off with either cappuccino, coffee or tea. Food consists of fresh, breakfast meat, fruits and pastries etc. All the staff are very friendly. The room is average size and clean with a nice view of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore. Hotel is about 15-20 minutes walk to the Colosseum, Spanish Steps and the Fountain of Trevi. I've seen other reviews about the cost of taxi to the airport. There is a taxi stand right across the street from the hotel. I walked over and got a taxi to drive to the hotel where my wife and daughter are waiting with our luggages. The cost was 48 Euros. I would recommend this hotel.

Mecenate Palace
The breakfast buffet was very good. The hotel is quite old, but clean and well updated. We did have a hard time finding it because the building numbers are not consecutive like they are in the US and there was not an easily visible sign out front.
