The picture shown on the booking was not right.
Our stay was pretty uncomfortable. The picture shown on the booking was not of the hotel but that of a monument nearby. We couldn't even get a ride to drop us at the hotel as the hotel is on princess street is closed to traffic... We had to walk with our luggage from a block away in the rain. The breakfast was bad & not much to choose from.

Convenient with great views
We upgraded to a superior suite and the views are totally worth it! Coffee on the balcony looking at the castle was a daily occurrence. The bathroom had a separate shower and a soaking tub. The bed needed a mattress topper (too firm for me). Breakfast was good.

Nice apartment off the Royal Mile.
Four of us stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment. It could have easily accommodated more in the large living room. This apartment was very close to Holyrood Palace, Arthur's seat, and a short walk to the center of activity on the Royal Mile.

Would not recommend
Hotel has a great location, but is tired and outdated. No parking, but they offer a discount on a garage down the street. No air-conditioning. Lobby smells of smoke. Bathrooms desperately need updating, most of the furniture in the restaurant and rooms had finish worn off. Carpets worn and dirty. Breakfast not included. However the staff was friendly and helpful when booking day trips and dinner reservations.

Poor1.0 / 5
Great location but many inconviences
You better hope you don't have a lot of bags because the hotel "lobby" where you check in is not on the first floor. You have to drag your bag up some stairs and take an elevator to even get to check in -- not exactly a warm or convenient (stairs -- not even a little ramp to pull your luggage) welcome. The bathroom was a decent size but the shower, sink, and toilet are all on the same plane. In other words, you don't step into the shower and have a door to pull closed. The drain is right in the middle of the bathroom, so when you take a shower your entire bathroom floor gets soaking wet. On top of that, the floor is concrete so it gets VERY slippery. Basically, you take a shower and then you need to go put your wellies on if you need to do any other business in the bathroom because the floor is drenched and there's no way to not walk through the slick, wet floor if you need to get to the sink or the toilet. Horrible, horrible set up. If you need to take a taxi from the hotel, you need to call and schedule it ahead of time because there are several bus stops right in front of the hotel so taxis can't just pull up and wait for you, like at most hotels. Again, inconvenient; you need to be ON TIME for your taxi if you do pre-order because, again, they cannot wait for you. Service in the restaurant was AWFUL. I sat with an empty glass for up to 20 minutes before I finally went and found another waitstaff (my server disappeared) to ask for another glass of wine or coffee.
