Great location and Lovely Decor
I was a bit disappointed in my room. It was by elevator, so you could hear it. Closet light and beside light kept coming on and off on it's own? I stayed a week & there were no drawers to put clothes in. No coffee maker in room so you have to get dressed to buy coffee in lobby or walk a few blocks to get it. Bathroom is tiny. Housekeeping would always forget to replace something. A towel, shampoo, glasses, you name it, something was always missing. Don't bring a car! Parking is 56 a night, and all kinds of parking restrictions on street. Use Lyft, Uber, bus or subway, if you can't walk to it. Hop on & off double decker tourist bus through groupon, is good for sightseeing. For business a free shuttle came to take people to McCormick. Coming from L.A., the food around town was nothing to rave about, unless you pay 45 bucks for a steak. Too much bread, carbs and comfort food in most places, for me.

Bye Bye Ambassador East. Hello Public Chicago.
We came back to visit our old Gold Coast neighborhood and was surprised the Ambassador East was now Public Hotel. (It's been 20 years and much has changed) Carmines the best for Italian, Gibson's for your huge appetite, relaxing at Rush & State people watching was a treat. Flower baskets everywhere! Public Chicago really needs to stay on top of carpet maintenance. One good rainstorm or snowstorm will track in the dirt as evident in the lobby seating areas. The Pump Room was redone and looks nice, but all the celebrity photos don't belong by the elevators/rest rooms downstairs. Maybe featured in the bar area would be more appropriate. The guest hallways need to be brighter. Very dingy. Room decor was eclectic/pleasant/non fussy and minimal. Color scheme relaxing throughout. Bathroom clean. Maid service ok. Needed more soap and requested it but finally got it the day before we left. Ran into Tom Dreesen in Lobby checking his email. Always seem to bump into some celebrity when in Chicago. Nice man. We did not suffer any bed bug bites. Fun day at Oak Street Beach. Nice walk there. Water still warm enough for bathing. All-in-all, a pleasant stay in a classic, proud Chicago hotel. Thank you.

Perfect location, great staff, beautiful interior. Room was a bit worn despite recent upgrades, and the back side view from our room was not exactly spectacular (yet unavoidable). Overall a nice stay.

Home away from home
My stay at Public was suburb. The 23 loft is amazing and has great natural lighting. The seating is comfortable and the partition for for the two rooms is sexy. I will be staying here again
