How the great have fallen...
This formerly elegant landmark property has been millennified into something resembling a Restoration Hardware set. Bad muzak and LED strip lights in the elevators....you get the idea. Dated and tedious -- and the workmanship is terrible -- like a 5-year-old did the painting. Service is mixed. The parts of the house traditionally manned by persons whose first language is something other than English were fine. Bellmen were good. A guy named Ryan acted with good sense and alacrity to respond to guest needs. But the staff at the front desk ... those smiling college-degree-in-nothing 20-somethings... are everything we've come to expect from them and less. They execute to no earthly purpose protocols that have taken on lives of their own, with customer needs and experience being secondary.

Memorial Day weekend getaway
Glad to see this classic hotel being revived. The location is great, convenient but quiet; the attention to detail is good but not excellent.

Same, but Not as Special
This has been, as The Public, my go to hotel whenever I'm in Chicago (usually a dozen or so times a year). It mostly looks the same, but it's lost something. The staff seems less enthusiastic. The energy is different. The room service menu is adequate but less interesting. Redirected to use the restaurant entrance on arrival because the front door was being repaired -- without the slightest attitude of courtesy or acknowledgement that I was carrying luggage, and based on the different entry, up half-flight of stairs. Stayed at a different Chicago hotel for the first time in 4 years.

Can I give more than 5 stars?
The staff was beyond accommodating and so friendly. They made sure our wedding weekend was special and really put forth a great effort. We loved it and would recommend it to anybody. Maya in particular went out of her way for us . Thank you 🙏

Popcorn Ceiling and Inconsistant Faucet
Beautiful hotel, lovely location and customer service was excellent. The popcorn ceiling needs to be replaced, the inconsistent hot/cold water coming out of the faucet needs attention and the black out curtains are not very black out. Overall a great place to stay in.
