Classic beauty with old world charm
The Strand is a classic British colonial hotel. It exudes that old feel, including butlers for each floor, lovely little petit fours on our bed at night and large suites with a walk in closet. Walking distance are 2 very good restaurants- Rangoon + Monsoon. And one can do an architectural walking tour of colonial Rangoon from the hotel.

Time Travel to this Hotel
The Strand takes you back in time to when travel was elegant and "exotic". The hotel is beautiful and the facilities have old world charm with a modern twist. The Butler service is impeccable and the staff is attentive. The room was magnificent and large (although the shower was tiny) and full of great amenities! This was our first trip to Myanmar and won't be our last and we will definitely be staying at the Strand again.

Very Good
Great place with some issues
The Strand thinks of itself as THE hotel in Yangon and in many areas it is, at the same time we did encounter issues that clearly left room for improvement. The problems started with the airport pickup, They charge $60 for the airport pickup (which compares to maybe $10-$11 by taxi) in a luxury limousine. The pickup and time was confirmed twice by email; and when we got there, we got picked up by some guy in a T-Shirt and a 15 year old Toyota. The hotel had the good sense to not charge for that and explained all their cars were busy. Lame excuse, if you want to be a leading hotel, you don't screw up like that. We enjoyed the food in the strand café the 1st evening; the second night service was incredible slow (like an hour wait for food), maybe 75% of tables were occupied and they explained they didn't expect that many guests that evening. Most items were pretty good, but one fish dish was awful, old fish with too much salt by a factor. Also, one breakfast resulted the only event that made us stay in the bathroom for extended periods of time out of 9 days in Myanmar. The room and bathrooms were very nice, the service in general pretty good. But for the claim of being a leading hotel of the world, I am less forgiving about the issues we had.
