Expensive and run down
Hotel is very old with multiple floors and no elevator. Room was a good size, but needs to be updated and ours was on a 15 degree slope. The carpet is worn out and looked dirty inside the room, while it was peeling in the hallway. Bathroom has some mold underneath the faucets. The towel rack is extremely hot and can burn you like a curling iron if you accidentally brush against it. Beds were not comfortable. Breakfast was ok with the traditional English items, fruit, and some other continental breakfast food. Inveraray is a very small and walkable area that you can cover in 8 minutes from 1 end to the other. Beautiful drive there that isn't steep. This may be better as a day trip or short stay.

Ideal location - views and central to all.
Had overnight stay. Location was ideal for views and central to all attractions ( castle, jail, pubs, shopping). Room was clean and comfortable and Breakfast was good.

Okay for one night
We arrived at Argyll Hotel five minutes after dinner service ended (9 pm) and there was ONE restaurant in the entire town open - some smart Indians who sorta have a captive audience (although the food was quite good). Argyll is 2 minutes from Inveraray Castle so that's why we were in Inveraray in the first place. However, I can't advise anyone stay at Argyll Hotel. Service (Ines at the desk) was quite friendly as was breakfast service. Food was okay. fFor us, it was a place to stay on our way from Point A to Point B.

Be sure to have dinner before you arrive!
Inveraray is a lovely little backwater town near the Inveraray Castle, which is exactly why we chose Argyll Hotel. However, we arrived (party of 6, one of whom was my 85-year-old mom) just as dinner service at the hotel was closing for the night. And every other restaurant in the town was also closed - except for an Indian restaurant. So if you decide to take a chance on Inveraray, be sure to have dinner before you get there! The hotel itself was fine for one night. No a/c or fans, so the sleeping was hot and uncomfortable - I know, we Americans like our a/c. Overall, the staff was quite helpful and friendly and breakfast was a nice experience. Ines at the front desk was lovely and seems to work round-the-clock. I wouldn't stay at Argyll Hotel again but if you just need a place to stop on your way from point A to point B, it's okay for one night.
