Fire the maid!
I put out a "DO NOT DISTURB" sign. The maid came in anyway with the sign and left it in the room. I had left CONFINEDTIAL legal documents in the room when I went to court. I was furious!

Very Good8.0
Old hotel in good location
I would give this hotel 3/5, but decided to go with 4/5 and here is why: Our booking that we did months in advance happened to be made right after Hurricane Florence. Seeing reports of floods and over 30 people dead from it we wanted to cancel, but hotel didn't want to do that. It was non-refundable reservation. Total booking for for over $2k and seeing some possibility of relatively safe weather we decided to take a chance and go. I'm still alive, but that was a clear sign of "money over customer" philosophy on hotel's part. That would clearly scored 1/5 for me Other than that, the hotel is in very good location, clean, but old. The room had that old museum smell when you walk into it. People who worked at the time of stay (no the ones I talked with when I tried to cancel the reservation) were very nice and helpful. Hotel is good, but If I ever travel to Charleston, SC again - I will think twice before booking this hotel again.

Very Disapointing stay
Did not sleep the first night due to a rattle in the wall or ceiling. It was not the fan for the air we checked that. It was terrible. Spoke to the front desk the next morning told them I was honestly exhausted from not sleeping . They moved me to another room but did not offer to adjust my bill or even upgrade my room .. went to breakfast waited over 30 min for a omelet .. not prepared to my order when it arrived . there were three tables being waited on. How could it take so long and be so wrong when it got there. Also flys all over the dining room while I watched my wife eat her breakfast. I was to frustrated to have them re make it plus my wife would have been finished eating by the time the brought my breakfast back the second time .The mattress in both rooms I was in were noticeably old. They were sunken down where people lay. The one in room 516 actually had a piece of ply wood under the mattress to hold it up. Really in a quality motel ply wood to support an old mattress is quite sad. I expected a much nicer and much more upkept rooms when reserved the room.

Very disappointed
I booked using a *free room I had and paid the difference. It was not worth the $140/night, $65 for brunch or the $36 for valet ($20 to self park). The hotel was unaccomadating when asked to check out 30 mins later due to having brunch reservations at their restaurant. My daughter (1y/o) would need to change before going home but I was denied. The food at the Barbadoes room was okay at best. My daughters pancake was dry and tasted terrible. The omelet was decent but we could have made the salmon ourselves at home and it taste better. No flavor at all. The valet was no where to be found when I arrived at 10pm (even after calling to tell them I was pulling up). They also misplaced the tag for my car and didn’t know where it was parked in the garage so it took longer. The gentleman checking us in was very pleasant and upbeat. The hostess at the Barbadoes was kind and helpful. The server started out nice but then declined from there. We will go elsewhere when back in the city.
