Inside/outside room preferences
Always a nice place to stay. I ask for and prefer the “inside”rooms ( actual rooms with access doors from inside the hotel). The “outside” rooms has your access door that you enter and exit from outside the hotels main area. In the summer, either is fine with me however during winter, the advantages for having inside access are self explanatory. All rooms are very nice and the beds sleep great. Never had a meal there so no comments

Hotel was very nice and staff was great! Only issue with hotel was the amount of noise at all hours. Which is expected at most hotels.

Ashtray in Hickory
Travelled to Hickory with 3 friends for a local show. The Crown Plaza has a reputation for a quality hotel and we spent the extra money to stay at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Hickory. We pulled into the Hotel and it was in an odd part of town, but a nice appearing, large hotel. We entered a large lobby that felt a bit dated, but clean. After getting our room, we were told to park around back and then we found that this large hotel was attached to a small MOTEL with rooms the open into the parking lot. Hmmm. This had me a little concerned, but hey, small town Hickory - they were being creative in use of space. The room was quite small, basic furnishings, cheap plumbing fixtures - all of this was OK while not reflecting the price. The Big problem was the overbearing smoke odor in the room. We paid for a NONsmoking double room and the odor was bad enough to leave my eyes red the next morning. The stench clung to our clothes and the entire group agreed to abandon our second night (without a refund due to paying ahead of time) and stay at another hotel. VERY disappointed. Stay here if you have no other choice.
