Excellent location with the skytrain and shopping/meal options right next door. Breakfast was also great.

Positive Experience Flushed Down the Toilet
Long story short - Had toilet trouble and rather than having someone fix it, housekeeping showed up and gave me a plunger to do it myself. I'm a paying customer and housekeeping are paid employees, but I'm the one expected to plunge the toilet?? So, there I was, on a Saturday night, on my vacation, plunging a toilet used by thousands of guests in the hotel room I was paying $100+ for a night. I can honestly say I've never had that happen before, and never plan to again. When someone goes on vacation, and pays to stay somewhere, they generally expect that they won't be the one doing the cleaning and room maintenance. I'm usually a pretty easy guest, and I don't require housekeeping during my stay, yet I'll leave a tip anyways. This is the first time in the history of my travels that I have not left a tip for housekeeping. Honestly, I think I should be sending them a plumbing bill for MY services.

Holiday Inn Express
The hotel is behind the train station and we found it extremely noisy. We would have preferred being closer to the waterfront. Difficult to locate. Great breakfast.

Many positives, one glaring negative
Good last minute stay in Burnaby. Most important tip: the parking garage is directly to the left of the main entrance. Parking is free but you must give your license plate number to the front desk. Hotel seemed secure since you had to use your room key to access the floors. The only problem I had was with cleanliness. Rugs could have used a good cleaning. Everything seemed to have a single hair on it, from the card with the tv channels to the duvet cover to the hand towels in the bathroom. Major ick factor. Other than that, parking was easy, front desk staff were pleasant, hotel was quiet, and location was central to what we wanted to do. We even received to-go bags with juice, muffins, and an apple when we checked out before breakfast. Might stay again if I knew there wasn't going to be hair all over everything.
