8/10 Very Good

When I arrived I was confused that it says Grand Tuscany outside on building. When I checked in I was not offered cookie. When I went to ask, they said the ones available were hard. I later went downstairs for fresh cookies and they were available. I arrived to room on the 9th floor and loved how spacious the room was and the view of the city. There was a random large piece of glass sitting against wall (unattended), I’m glad I had no kids with me. The ice machine never worked on the 9th floor. There was a dead roach to the side of the machine. Each time I had to go to 8th floor for ice. I made the front desk aware and they said they would notify maintenance. There were 2 elevators which were really dated and slow. The first night I did not have any problem calling the front desk and someone answering. The second day I called the front desk on 3 occasions and no one picked up. Each time I walked to the front desk and my needs were taken care of. I asked for bed sheets to non English speaking staff vacuuming floor, the response time to get new sheets was long. I ended up getting sheets soon after going down to the front desk. Let me tell you, the front desk employees seem to have to do everyone’s job and they need more than one person in lobby at front desk at all times. I received a text from Shandelia as she was checking on us and our stay. I really appreciated her reaching out to ensure we were ok. All in all my stay with my husband was great. All staff were friendly.

Quiet room
I was excited to see a DoubleTree for a great rate. Not the most Hilton-y of the Doubletrees out there. more like a budget hotel chain. As all of the other reviews note, the staff were VERY HELPFUL & nice - from the valet to the reception lady, everyone I encountered could not have been better. the lobby/elevators/ etc (i didn't use the dining facilities) were outdated, kind of yuck. The elevators as reviewed seem to need an update - push the button twice to get it moving, etc. However - in the room it feels like a different place, I agree wtih other reviewers that it needs an update decor wise for sure, but it reminded me of an airport hotel, in that once I closed the door, I couldn't hear anything from outside the room. The room was clean, spacious and the bed was comfortable. For a relatively cheap overnight stay, I would probably stay again, although I don't know if it's in the best area of Houston, I never felt unsafe. It's just not what you might be thinking of when you see the chain's name,(and the pics online)
