Most annoying house keeping
The hotel is clearly past its prime and has not been properly maintained. Would not have mind much if it wasn't for the most annoying house keeping process in any hotel I've been too... coming 3-4 times a day at inconvenient times because they didn't finish the first time! Was woken up a little after 8am on a Saturday morning for house keeping, and a manager visited the room pass 9pm to verify if the cleaning had been done. Otherwise the service was ok. Friendly cafe waiters/waitresses. An ok location, although a little out of the way if you are not willing to walk.

Expectations vs. reality
It is a bit difficult to rate this hotel. Do I evaluate it based on global experience or based on the location (a very poor country with myriad challenges) and local expectations? I’ll go with global expectations. Hence, an overall rating of 2. The highlight of the stay was the employees themselves - cheerful, polite and helpful - which is rather remarkable given the condition of the hotel. The facility is very dated, with maintenance more by patchwork than by plan. Workarounds seem to be the norm. Housekeeping did a very good job cleaning the room in general, but like me, were handicapped by the small annoyances, like a broken sink stopper, a missing toilet paper holder, inconsistent (or nonexistent) hot water, a rickety, leaking shower 'door,' etc. Sleep was difficult at times due to rattling water pipes and an inconsistent ventilation system. The hotel lobby was drafty, cold (it was winter) and smoky due to management's tendency to throw open all of the doors to the outside. Location was an issue, but honestly, there really isn't a good location for a hotel in or around Harare. To truly experience Zimbabwe (aside from the friendly people), you must go outside of the capital. This country has a lot to offer, but you must adjust your expectations accordingly. Would I stay here again? No, but at the same time, I do not regret the experience.

African adventure
Well located close to the Falls in a garden and water setting with 3 swimming pools, a thatched bar area outside and plenty of sun loungers. Pleasant breakfast area with a good buffet selection and the ability to watch birds and some wild life perform in the grounds. Air conditioning worked a treat in the superior rooms we booked and we received complimentary drinks and the local sparkling wine which was a nice gesture.
