Improvement needed
The MRT's are15 min walk away with buses on Orchard Road 6-7 minutes down the hill. I have stay at this hotel pre Pandemic and it was faultless, this time a little less so. On checking in at 4.10 pm (check in is from 3pm) I was advised that my room wasn't available apparently because of a late check out at 4pm by the previous guest but I could use the facilities and a voucher was offered for a soft drink. On pressing they couldn't give a time when the room would be ready but they would text me. This wasn't acceptable hence the arrival of the Duty Manager who again apologised and she would personally advise when the room was ready. An improved offer of a better drink was accepted and advised to the lounge. Within 10mins the Duty Manager came back and said the room was ready and there had been a misunderstanding at the front desk-sorted. However on checking out of the hotel the drink had been added to my invoice but this was removed. The handle on the door leading to the balcony appeared to have dropped resulting in me being stranded on the balcony, luckily my mobile phone was with me and I had to ring central reservations who contacted the hotel and the door opened from inside the room. I did notice that the sun loungers and tables are looking marked and tired which is a little surprising for a 5* hotel. The Shangri-La is still a very pleasant hotel and hopefully my experience this time is not a reflection on the path the hotel is heading - not sure I'll stay next time
