Romantic getaways are a time to reconnect and create new memories together. From Hawaiian island beach breaks to bar-hopping in Nashville or even cultural exploration in Europe, we have thought long and hard about what romance looks like in the modern world.

A huge part of a couple’s trip is determined by where you stay – choose the accommodation poorly then your attempt at romance is pretty much doomed. If you’re an active couple looking for a variety of activities and day trips or simply seeking a secluded few days away from the frantic pace of life, we have accommodation that's right for you.

    The Plaza Hotel

    New York, NY, USA

The Plaza Hotel overflows with elegance and prestige. With a chateau-style exterior, this hotel wouldn’t be out of place in the Loire Valley, yet it’s overlooking Central Park on Fifth Avenue – you couldn’t handpick a better Manhattan location.

The interior continues the opulent theme, including grand chandeliers in the lobby, a champagne bar, and the Palm Court restaurant with its iconic stained-glass roof. Guest rooms feature luxurious bedding, lavish furnishings, and 24-carat-gold-plated faucets in the bathrooms. If this hotel feels familiar, that’s because it’s been in many Hollywood feature films. In fact, The Plaza Hotel is one of the most filmed locations in the city.

    Montage Laguna Beach

    Orange County, CA, USA

Evoking a sense of early-1900s nostalgia, Montage Laguna Beach retains the air of a luxury artists’ retreat. Nestled into a hillside overlooking one of Orange County’s finest beaches, the lush gardens and colonial-era architecture are perfect for romantic escapes with your loved one. This hotel is a great example of Californian laidback luxury.

Start the morning off with a yoga session before enjoying an alfresco breakfast surrounded by swaying palms. The excellent spa offers massages, facials, and other therapies, all with ocean views. There's nothing better on a balmy afternoon than enjoying a dip in the ocean, accessible down a private coastal path directly from the hotel.

Combining downtown convenience with stunning views of the San Jacinto Mountains, this modern hotel is designed for rest and relaxation. Kimpton Rowan has a personable ambiance akin to the best boutique hotels, with staff who greet you by name and memorize how you take your coffee each morning. That being said, the hotel packs in plenty of amenities with over 150 rooms, 2 restaurants, a cool rooftop bar with expansive desert views, and an excellent spa facility.

No children are allowed to stay at the hotel – unless your 4-legged companions are considered your children. Kimpton is a pet-friendly property, making it a great choice if you want to travel to Palm Springs with your pooch.

    Honolulu, HI, USA

Honolulu is renowned as a tropical lovers’ retreat, and Halekulani is a fitting beachfront hotel that’s within walking distance from the city and the golden sands of Waikiki Beach. This is a large hotel with over 450 rooms, yet the vibe is laidback throughout the flower-filled lobby, 3 dining rooms, and on-site spa. Rooms are spacious, with cream and wood furnishings in keeping with the beach vibes.

Ocean views can often help set a romantic mood, and the Halekulani has several room and suite options with large balconies overlooking Waikiki Bay with Diamond Head in the distance. After a cocktail in the jazz bar downstairs, retire early for private time on your balcony or a soak in the tub. If this is an anniversary trip, you can pick up something fancy at the Luxury Row shopping area, just a short walk away.

For a romantic city break in Paris, this country manor draped in ivy is right on the money. It has a fairytale vibe that envelops you as you move inside the property. Antique furnishings and old-world fixtures like fireplaces and grand oil paintings whisk guests back in time.

With only 56 rooms, each uniquely decorated, Pavillon de La Reine & Spa is more personable than a big-brand 5-star hotel you can find in Paris. What guestrooms lack in size, they make up for in style. Other facilities appealing to couples include a luxury spa and free bicycle rental. The location, near Place des Vosges, is wonderful for photographs in every season, and you’re well placed for walks along the River Seine.

    Lennox Hotel

    Miami, FL, USA

Lennox Hotel is a great example of Miami’s Art Deco architectural style. The location of this intimate hotel is superb, with many of Miami Beach’s most famous landmarks all a short shuttle ride away. The golden sands of South Beach are close enough for the hotel to offer a private beach area with dedicated servers keeping your drinks topped up. Alternatively, you can chill out by the pool in the central courtyard of the hotel.

There is a clear focus on eco-friendly travel at The Lennox. Handcrafted wooden furnishings around the hotel have been upcycled and complement swathes of organic textiles. The Latin-inspired hotel restaurant, Amalia, serves locally sourced fish and meat dishes. If that's not enough, The Lennox has a sparkling wine vending machine in case you have the need for some late-night bubbles.

    Dream Nashville

    Nashville, TN, USA

Just a stone’s throw from Broadway's honky-tonk bars yet a world away in terms of style, Dream Nashville has quickly become the place to stay in Music City. The hotel opened in 2018, and everything still feels modern and sleek for couples visiting Nashville. It has an enviable downtown location in the historic Printer’s Alley neighborhood, with an urbane, romantic appeal for visiting couples.

With 3 different restaurants, 2 cocktail bars and a nightclub, your evenings will be anything but dull. For sightseeing, you’ll find several iconic landmarks within walking distance, including the must-see Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum – although the complimentary shuttle is on hand if you’d rather take the hotel’s Lincoln.

    The Grand America Hotel

    Salt Lake City, UT, USA

A downtown landmark in its own right, this hotel is as grand as the name suggests. It was built in time for the 2002 Winter Olympics and continues to be among the finest places to stay in Salt Lake City.

Guestrooms at The Grand America Hotel are full of opulent touches – think fresh flowers, lush carpets, and Italian marble – with balcony views of the Wasatch Mountains in the distance. Pamper yourself at the on-site spa, take a dip in the heated swimming pool, and make time to try their legendary afternoon tea. The Grand America Hotel is especially impressive around the holiday season, when the entire property and grounds are given a festive makeover.

    Sensira Resort & Spa

    Cancún, Mexico

This is one of the finest examples of a huge hotel that manages to cater to different types of guests. As an all-inclusive hotel with over 700 rooms, you could be forgiven for thinking it isn’t suitable for a romantic getaway. However, the expansive property has been well-designed to cater for a secluded couple’s vacation.

Just south of Cancún city, along an idyllic stretch of coast on the Riviera Maya, you can enjoy the private beach and adults-only pool for a secluded beach vacation. Day trips to Mayan ruins or natural swimming holes can be arranged with the concierge.

    One&Only Palmilla

    San José del Cabo, Mexico

Exclusive luxury sculpted into a jungle-clad wilderness is waiting for you at One&Only Palmilla, positioned at the far tip of the Baja Peninsula. The difficulty in reaching the hotel is part of the allure – you get top-of-the-range luxury with raw nature where deserts, jungles, and oceans meet. For active types, there’s a private beach with snorkels and stand-up paddleboards, along with a fantastic 18-hole golf course next door. If that’s too active for you, head to the spa for a 4-hand massage before spending a few hours at the adults-only pool.

Of the 4 fantastic restaurants, our pick for a romantic evening would be the Michelin-starred steakhouse, Seared, which sources exquisite cuts of beef from across the continent. Evenings are spent listening to live acoustic tunes under starlight at Agua Bar.
