    Gyesan Catholic Cathedral was originally built in a traditional Korean style but was rebuilt to its current form in 1902 after it was destroyed by fire. Over 100 years old, this cathedral home to the cathedra for all Daegu-area cathedrals.

    The cathedral is the first Gothic cathedral in the area, and its architectural beauty is highlighted subtly at night without the need for special colors. Geundae Alley is nearby, which is great for an evening stroll.

    Duryu Park

    Covering an area of about 1.7 km2, Duryu Park greets you with a new look with each seasonal change and is beloved by locals as a getaway spot. Just pack a picnic blanket and some snacks, and you're ready to enjoy each seasonal look on the spacious lawns of Duryu Park. Yellow rapeseed plants bloom under drooping willow trees around Seongdang Pond, creating a spectacular view. It's also a great spot for people-watching, as many couples on dates can be found at nearby cafes.

    Daegu Spa Valley

    Daegu Spa Valley is a place to relax and enjoy the experience of hot springs. The indoor complex has a health club and souvenir store on the 1st floor, while the 2nd floor features several hot spring pools, steam rooms, a herbal bath pool, a kiddie pool, and a jjimjilbang (Korean bathhouse). 

    There’s an outdoor water park, which consists of a youth pool, water polo pool, wave pool, waterslide, and a diving pool. Daegu Spa Valley attracts those looking to experience a traditional Korean spa treatment – the sauna-like jjimjilbang is known for improving blood circulation and skin complexion.

    Daegu Arboretum

    The total transformation is hard to believe, but the Daegu Arboretum, which sports a new look with the changing flowers and trees every season, used to be a landfill site at one point. Seeing all 21 themed sections, from the entrance to the artificial waterfall, takes more than an hour so wearing comfortable shoes is highly recommended. Admission and parking are free. Public transportation is a great alternate to driving because you can easily walk from Daegok Station of the Daegu Metro.

    Palgonsan Natural Park

    Palgonsan Natural Park is part of a beautiful mountain with magnificent granite formations, interwoven rock formations, thick forests, and beautiful valleys. Located 20 km northeast of Daegu city, the lush park attracts hikers with scenic trails that lead to Buddhist shrines, such as Donghwasa Temple, Seonbosa Temple, and Pagyesa Temple.

    You can visit Palgonsan Natural Park just about any time of the year – see blooming azaleas in spring, enjoy fall foliage along a 15-km pathway within the park, and enjoy views of falling snow during wintertime.

    Biseulsan Recreational Forest

    Biseulsan Recreational Forest has a number of notable rock formations, pure streams, and beautiful cliff walls. Located between 2 mountain peaks in Dalseong-gun, this family-friendly spot has a water playground for children, camping grounds, and forest cabins for rent. 

    Spring is one of the best times to see beautiful pink azaleas in full bloom. During winter, Biseulsan Recreational Forest transform into an outdoor theme park, with icicle hills, snow sleds, ice gardens and caves.

    Mabijeong Mural Village

    Most mural villages are characterized by narrow alleys and high building density, due to the nature of repurposing old city centres. Mabijeong Mural Village is a bit different in that it creates an aura of friendliness with murals of rural landscapes from the '60s and '70s that suit the atmosphere of an ordinary mountain village.     The Arc

    The Arc is an impressive structure located on the western outskirts of Daegu, where the Nakdonggang and Geumhogang Rivers merge. The circular 3-storey building resembles a spaceship and houses an art exhibition, a top-floor cafe, and an observation deck that offers stunning views over the river. If you visit in the late afternoon, you can enjoy a spectacular sunset over the calm water.

    The complex is popular with local families, couples and travelers who enjoy the peaceful riverside atmosphere, scenic views, and beautiful grounds available for picnics and hangouts. Entrance to the building is free. To reach The Arc, take the subway to Daesil Station. From there, you can rent a bicycle and ride to the attraction along the riverside bike path. Taxi cabs are also available.

    Daegu Culture and Arts Center

    Daegu Culture and Arts Center showcases a variety of live performances year-round. It has an outdoor stage, an exhibition hall, and 2 performance theatres. The main theatre hosts opera, concerts and dances, while the other is mainly used for plays and solo recitals.

    The outdoor stage can accommodate over 25,000 people, making it one of the largest in Korea. World-class musicals, plays, music concerts, and operas take place throughout the year. If you love art and music, the Daegu Culture and Arts Center is a must-visit. Make sure you book your tickets in advance.
