What you need to know before you go
Riviera Maya is a paradise where you'll find an array of exciting things to do, pristine beaches, and fun towns and cities to explore. You can head to beautiful Playa del Carmen, the heart of the region, to enjoy the welcoming beachfront alongside high-end shops and restaurants offering genuine Mexican seafood. Museums and aquariums are located here as well, letting you learn all about the region's history and unique wildlife.
If you're feeling a little more adventurous, you'll find thrilling excursions throughout the area. Puerto Aventuras, for example, is where you can take to the waters for a boating experience or a dive beneath the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. Charters are available, though you can rent a boat yourself and take charge of your own adventure if you prefer. Don't miss Akumal, which features a low-tide beach that functions more like a natural pool.
