What You Need to Know Before You Go

Frankfurt is a cosmopolitan city on the banks of the river Main. This is a place of history—Goethe was born here, and many of the building date from the 14th-century—but its skyline features some of Europe’s most impressive skyscrapers. To sample some of Frankfurt’s artistic treasures, head to the Museumsufer district and explore its collection of museums.

Römerberg Square is Frankfurt’s old center, and a good place to stroll. A walk along the Main will carry you past plenty of open-air cafes, and the Zeil is one of the busiest shopping streets on the continent.
