Occupying a green parcel beside the shimmering Caribbean Sea, the airport provides links to numerous cities in Latin America, along with non-stop flights to North America and Europe. Around 20 kilometers away via the expressway, ‘La Capital’ Santo Domingo is flavored with a mish mash of cultures, unique neighborhoods, and captivating remnants of its colonial past.

Most hotels near Las Americas International Airport sit a few kilometers away in the resort town of Boca Chica, where you’ll find everything from small budget-friendly digs, to all-inclusive beachfront resorts. In Santo Domingo’s core the choice includes aparthotels, boutique hotels, and modern chain name favorites.

Where to stay

Aside from a vibrant nightlife, glossy museums, and excellent restaurants, Santo Domingo’s main lure is the Zona Colonial – or the Old Town. Studded with colonial-era architecture, it’s home to the stout 16th century Fort Ozama, and many attractive churches. Half an hour to the east, the seaside haven of Boca Chica boasts bleach blonde beaches, crystal clear waters, and plenty of afterhours revelry.

Las Americas International Airport serves major cities all year long, with non-stop flights to Bogota, Frankfurt, Madrid, New York, Panama City, Paris, and Jamaica’s capital Kingston. Around 30 minutes by car from the heart of Santo Domingo, you can get into the capital by bus or taxi, the latter being considerably more expensive. Both can be sought from the airport, along with rental cars, whilst some hotels – both those in the Old Town and in nearby Boca Chica – can provide their own airport transfers with prior arrangement.
