Things to see in the 13th arrondissement
The geographic and social center of the 13th arrondissement is the Place d’Italie, site of its town hall and public transport hub. Italie 2 is a popular shopping mall straddling the metro station, designed by the famous modernist Japanese architect Kenzo Tange. The cosmopolitan Avenue des Gobelins is bursting with lively restaurants featuring cuisine from all four corners of the globe, including some of the best Asian food in all Paris. Also worth a visit is the Paris Rive Gauche district bordering the River Seine. This pedestrian-friendly development on former industrial land has received praise for its imaginative urban design. One of its most triumphant achievements is the award-winning François Mitterand Library, which houses the vast National Library of France. The quarter to the south of the arrondissement is Paris’s Chinatown—here you can see the house in which Ho Chi Minh lived for several years and visit the famous Vietnamese supermarket Tang Frères.
