Marine Corps Recruit Depot Introduction

The Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) is a military installation that provides initial training to male Marine recruits, mostly those living west of the Mississippi River, upon enlistment. Built in 1919, the facility trains more than 21,000 new recruits every year, which involves a rigorous 13-week training process. The Depot is also home to the Western Recruiting Region's Drill Instructors School and the Marine Corps' Recruiter School, as well as certain Coast Guard activities and the MCRD San Diego Command Museum. Set beside San Diego International Airport, it's in a prime spot for exploring many of San Diego's most popular neighborhoods.
