How to get to South Padre Island

There's a choice of 3 airports when flying into South Padre Island, depending on which airline you book. McAllen Miller International Airport in Mission is the furthest away, about 2 hours drive down I-2 and I-69E. Valley International Airport is closer, about an hour's drive away, while the closest is Brownsville, just half an hour’s drive down the TX-48E. There's a bus service from Brownsville to get you into Port Isabel. From there you can catch the Wave shuttle service. This offers free travel to South Padre Island, as well as along its boulevard, every half hour.
