Family friendly travelling in Mallorca Island

Sun, sea, and sand along the beautiful coastline of a stunning island just off the east coast of Spain—what’s not to love about Mallorca? Being a highly popular destination with almost 10 million visitors each year, there’s a wealth of fantastic activities for the whole family to enjoy, including water parks for thrill-seekers, aquariums and historic treasures for curious minds, and of course golden beaches coupled with picturesque sea views for endless fun in the sun.

Things to see on Mallorca Island

Get acquainted with life under the sea at the Palma Aquarium in the city of Palma de Mallorca. Dive right in with the opportunity to swim in the tank with the fish (and with the sharks for the more daring). There’s also a play area and pirate-themed activities to keep little ones happy. Or travel back in time along the Ferrocarril de Sóller railroad, connecting the towns of Sóller and Palma. The electric train running along winding routes and through tunnels really is a blast from the past and perfect for any train enthusiast, providing spectacular views of the mountainous Serra de Tramuntana. Once you’re in Palma, go wet and wild at Aqualand El Arenal, with children’s entry from just €10.00 and pools and slides for all ages. For a true beach experience, relax at the Port de Pollenca beach to the northwest of the island and enjoy its pure golden sands and refreshing sea.

Family-friendly hotels in Mallorca

When it comes to family-friendly places to stay, Mallorca is king. You’ll find plenty of all-inclusive family hotels near the coastline, offering family rooms, restaurants and pools, and often hosting games, activities, and tours, taking the stress out of vacation planning. However, for a little more freedom while still having access to hotel entertainment, choose one of Mallorca’s apart-hotels. Their self-catering facilities are suitable for all tastes—or why not take the opportunity to venture out and try the local cuisine? For some peace and quiet, consider renting a villa or converted farmhouse, and have fun in your own private pool.

Where to stay on Mallorca Island

For the widest choice and easiest access to the airport, choose a child-friendly all-inclusive hotel near Palma de Mallorca—the biggest city on the island. There is plenty close by to see and do, as well as some of the best beaches Mallorca has to offer. But for somewhere less crowded, take a look at the north coast near Alcudia or the east coast for Mallorca apartments and aparthotels. Here you’ll find a range of facilities and some more secluded, yet still stunning beaches nearby. Otherwise, check out the many villas and converted estates dotted around the island, particularly to the northwest, to experience the greener side of Mallorca.

How to get to Mallorca Island

The easiest way is to fly to Palma de Mallorca airport, which serves flights to and from many major European airports. From here, hop on a bus to the city of Palma, which run every 15 minutes. There’s also a host of airport transfer services available. Alternatively, take a ferry to Palma port from the Spanish coast from locations such as Barcelona or Valencia, or from one of the other Balearic islands. Once on the island, an affordable car rental might be your easiest option for exploring—otherwise, there are frequent buses running from Plaça Espanya in Palma to the whole of the island.
