Crete Island Luxury Hotels

Crete is the Greek island that has it all. Secluded beaches and dramatic, craggy mountains; pretty hillside towns and white-washed churches; exquisite cuisine and fabulous wines. And that's without considering its claim to be the cradle of European civilization, thanks to its stunning 4,000-year old Minoan palaces. Then there are its exclusive beach resorts, luxury yachting marinas, and beautiful mountain retreats. Coming to Crete is less of an island vacation and more of a journey through a micro-continent.

Things to see in Crete Island

You can't come to Crete without taking in a true marvel of the ancient world, the Palace of Knossos. Many of the rooms of this splendid Minoan royal palace have been reconstructed in all of their glory. There's more Minoan history to be had at the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, possibly the most outstanding museum in Greece. And the Old Town of Hania, complete with its elegant Venetian lighthouse and Ottoman-era streets, simply cannot be missed. Its boutique restaurants and stylish stores offer a chance to enjoy the finer side of Cretan living. For a slice of Crete's natural splendor, take a trip to the Samaria National Park. Its dramatically hewn gorge offers some of the most spectacular views on the island. The maze of narrow streets in the port town of Elounda offers a subtler drama. Strolling among its beautiful white-washed buildings you may be rubbing shoulders with celebrities in this popular destination.
