River Walk Introduction

From stylish art museums and eclectic boutiques to buzzing bars and waterfront restaurants, the San Antonio River Walk is one of the city's most popular attractions. Situated below the streets of downtown, this network of beautiful cypress-lined walkways runs 2.5 miles along the banks of the San Antonio River and is dotted with independent bars, upmarket restaurants, shops, and museums. Often called the 'American Venice', the San Antonio River Walk dates from 1946, when the first riverside restaurant opened, and has since grown into an attractive, vibrant entertainment, shopping and dining district.
