The wildly popular Busch Gardens is the place to head in Tampa for an exciting African experience that includes lions, tigers, and lemurs. With habitats that range from the heat of the Serengeti to lush African jungles and wild rapids, you'll also get up close to crocodiles, elephants, cheetahs, and hippos. But perhaps the wildest side to Busch Gardens lies with its rides and rollercoasters, reckoned as some of the most thrilling in the country.

Things to see in Busch Gardens Tampa

Most visitors to this neighborhood are here for its world-class amusement parks: Busch Gardens and Adventure Island. Busch Gardens successfully combines close encounters with magnificent animals from across Africa and the globe with some truly hair-raising rides. Many of the rides here are legendary, like the SheiKra, with its 200-foot drop. Adventure Island also has its share of thrills and spills, of the watery kind. Expect to get rather wet on its corkscrewing chute rides, wild rapids, and tube slides. But it's not just about high-adrenaline excitement here. South of the parks is the Hillsborough River, with its parks, woods, and the beautifully landscaped Rogers Park golf course. The University of South Florida also has an attraction of its own—the Botanical Gardens. Its 16 acres display everything from orchids and bonsai to cactus and herbs. And for the curious minded, the nearby MOSI (Museum of Science and Industry) has a number of fascinating educational exhibits, with the emphasis firmly on fun.

Good for families

The area surrounding the neighborhood’s two amusement parks consists mainly of North Tampa's quiet suburbs. So it provides a relaxed and stress-free base for the family fun to be had at those parks. Hotels in Busch Gardens are also noted for their family-friendly facilities and attitude. Even better, they are generally on the affordable side. The amusement parks themselves are big enough to provide several days of fun and entertainment for the kids. And with excellent connections close by much of the greater Tampa Bay area is open for exploration, when the fun of the parks is exhausted.

How to get to Busch Gardens Tampa
