Fort Lauderdale Hotels

Things have changed in Fort Lauderdale, and this Venice of America is an increasingly high-end, classy resort throwing off its old school reputation as a Spring Break beer-soaked center for debauched students. While there's still plenty of partying to be done, the current nightlife is more elegant cocktails, glamorous dining, and scintillating live music than kegs and carrying-on. The daytime is still all about lounging on the beach, though, and exploiting the canals which give the region its water-going reputation.

Things to see

There are many things which draw people here, but the premier reason is Fort Lauderdale Beach with its promenade full of quirky cafes, shops, eateries, and of course entertainment venues. Even without the diversions, though, the beautiful sands would be enough of a pull themselves, offering visitors a chance to laze and look out onto the Atlantic or take part in surfing, snorkeling, scuba diving, or any of the other popular water activities which populate this thronging resort. If you fancy getting a bit further out into the water, Port Everglades isn't just a working port, but also offers the chance to take a cruise off the coast and go exploring the wider region and the Caribbean, Mexico, or any number of other exotic, sun-kissed regions. For a different sort of expedition, the Lincoln Road Mall is a pedestrianized promenade full of shops, restaurants, galleries, and more all vying for your attention and business.

Hotels in Fort Lauderdale

In keeping with its new classy approach to leisure, there are plenty of glamorous, luxury hotels where you can splurge and indulge in equal measure. At the five-star end of things, you'll find a wide range of amenities including full service spas, beachfront locations, and deep bathtubs, to go alongside the flat-screen televisions and complimentary WiFi which come as standard. Mid-range hotels offer many of the same facilities, but less picturesque views.

Where to stay

There are a number of attractive options when it comes to picking a spot to stay, with the nearby Miami Beach a popular and bustling hub of nightlife and of course the golden sands. Less busy than South Beach, and with a wide array of hotels to choose from, this can be a great way of picking up a bargain while still being in the heart of the action, with top-class restaurants and clubs only ever a stone's throw away. Downtown Fort Lauderdale is a hugely walkable and the area around Las Olas Boulevard is a must for eating out or shopping expeditions.

How to get to Fort Lauderdale

Many hotels offer free shuttles, while buses and shared rides are plentiful and inexpensive, and taxis similarly cost-effective ways of getting downtown fast. Travelling within the United States, Deerfield Beach Station is a useful transport link, giving you a convenient means of exploring the wider region by rail.
