Most popular areas in Warsaw for 4-star hotels

With 4-star hotels and boutique options aplenty between the cobblestone alleyways of old Warsaw and the buzzing riverbanks of the Vistula, there are loads of choices open to travelers. Take the New Town, where hotels shoulder above tree-dotted Krakowskie Przedmiescie and pepper the same square as the famous Palace of Culture and Science. Or, take a bed in one of the rebuilt residences of the Old Town, where more than 800 years of history oozes from the alcoves. Meanwhile, the apartments in the old Venetian-style area of Muranow are elegant and charming.

Top 4-star hotels in Warsaw

Spas, saunas, and fitness centers are on the menu for travelers who opt to bed down in the huge 742-room Novotel Warszawa Centrum. Sat right in the middle of town, it's well connected, clean, and full of class. Close by, the Polonia Palace Hotel is a different sort of residence, hidden behind a gorgeous Baroque façade, offering opulent interiors, and even broadside views of the Palace of Culture and Science. And then comes the Platinum Residence, which has swish, minimalist apartments with kitchenettes and gym access, close to the Warsaw Uprising Museum.

Where to find the best restaurants in Warsaw

There's really nowhere better in Warsaw for the budding foodie in search of classic Slavic cuisine than the gastronomy of the Old Town. Here, you can delve into timber-carved taverns and sample broiling borscht, onion-topped pierogi dumplings, and some of the most acclaimed blood sausages in Europe. Across the river in hip and happening Praga and you'll get a medley of international foods, from Greek mezze joints to Italian pizzerias. The lush lawns of Lazienki Park, which are surrounded by the occasional café-eatery and cocktail bar – are great for picnics.

The most popular things to do in Warsaw

Warsaw's deep and dark past is one of its most immersive aspects. Start with a walking tour of the Old Town area to learn about what's been hailed as the most ambitious reconstruction project of the modern age. Or, head for the Warsaw Uprising Museum, to unravel brave tales of the Polish resistance effort during the war. For art, the National Museum in Warsaw simply can't be beaten, and you can lose yourself amidst a medley of objects, ranging from Hanseatic altarpieces to huge canvasses by the acclaimed Polish painter Jan Matejko. For a taste of Warsaw's more modern side, sample the cool cafés of Praga, where artsy types sip fair trade brews in beatnik bars. Or, head out after dark, to taste the wild nightlife of the clubs that thump every evening along Mazowiecka and the New Town's streets.

Best ways to get around Warsaw

Warsaw has an efficient public transport system. Its metro network has 2 lines that run to the outer districts of the city, while trams and buses are the best way to get around the center. Tickets are bought from the automatic machines at each stop – get a multi-day ticket to save on the price – and need to be validated during the ride at the small blue machines on-board. Uber also has a presence in Warsaw, and local taxi firms are reliable and affordable.
