Fourth Street Live! Introduction

With a huge neon ‘Hard Rock’ guitar high above the entrance, it is hard to miss the Fourth Street Live! entertainment and retail complex. Located on 4th Street, between Liberty and Muhammad Ali Boulevard, the center was opened in 2004. It has become a lively hub of vibrant bars and nightclubs, including sports bars, a cocktail lounge, and a duelling piano bar. There’s a diverse selection of restaurants and a mall-style food court. Set in the heart of Downtown Louisville, it is only a block from the Kentucky International Convention Center.

Several of the hotels are connected by the Louie Link, a glassed-in skywalk between the convention center and Fourth Street Live! Most feature restaurants, stylish bars, pools, and airport shuttles. For a good deal, go in the winter, and steer clear of the Kentucky Derby in May.

If you want to experience the vibrant nightlife of the city center, Downtown is a good option, staying close to Fourth Street. As well as the bars and clubs, Downtown is a cultural center, with plenty of galleries, museums and theaters, plus sporting venues including the Louisville Slugger Field. Alternatively, you can try the Old Louisville Historic District, which has the accolade of being America's largest Victorian neighborhood. The traditional architecture can be seen at Conrad-Caldwell House Museum. Opposite is the relaxing Central Park, which opened in 1872, and was formerly a front lawn of an exclusive estate.

Muhammed Ali was known as the Louisville Lip and his incredible story is told through the memorabilia, historical footage, art, and photo galleries at the Muhammad Ali Center. The city is also the home of the Kentucky Derby, held at Churchill Downs. It's well worth a visit to the racecourse even if you can't make it to the big race. You can swing one of the famous baseball bats at the Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory, which features a giant baseball bat outside. By the river, the Waterfront Park is a popular place to relax with its playgrounds, fountains, and open lawns.

Several Interstates pass through Louisville, with easy access via the north to south I-65 and I-71, as well as the east to west I-64. There are plenty of parking lots and on-street spaces in the center of the city, but it is a good idea to pre-book via the city’s website for a stress-free experience. With its central location, Fourth Street Live! is well served by the city’s bus network. The Greyhound depot is located at 720 W. Muhammad Ali Blvd. Louisville International Airport is 6.6 miles away and can be reached by bus from S 5th Street.
