How to Find the Best Liechtenstein Hotels with Hotels.com

Liechtenstein is a landlocked microstate in Central Europe bordered by Switzerland and Austria. Most the country is mountainous, making it a popular winter sports destination, particularly skiing. Early settlement of the region is thought to have originated with the Greeks and Etruscans, however over the course of its history the area would be ruled by the Helvetii, Romans, Franks, and the Holy Roman Empire. Visitors are attracted to Liechtenstein by its small and rich landscape, which offers a fairytale image. Many of the areas of interest here revolve around the Alpine regions and its winter sporting resorts. Finding your ideal hotel in Liechtenstein can be a difficult task, especially when there are hundreds of hotels to choose from. With the help of Hotels.com, you can book the hotel best suited to your budget and expectations with the aid of user submitted reviews, photo galleries, and our handy interactive map.

What's Liechtenstein Like?

The Liechtenstein tourism industry primarily caters towards Alpine sports, however there is still plenty of modern attractions for everyone else. One of the most popular attractions is the hilltop Liechtenstein National Museum, which features 42 exhibit rooms chronicling its history to as far back as its first settlement. The historic Vaduz Castle is a small 12th-century hilltop fortress with a panoramic view of the town below. The Main Square in the town center features plenty of traditional architecture, as well as plenty of little cafes, restaurants, and local boutiques. The town has some quirky specialty museums, such as the Postage Stamp Museum, Wine Cellars of the Prince of Liechtenstein, and the Ski Museum. Of course, most visitors to Liechtenstein come for the slopes, and the finest of them are Malbi Park and Ski Region Malbun.

Tips for Getting Along with Locals in Liechtenstein

Liechtenstein has a temperate Alpine climate, with the cool summer months lasting from June to August. The winter months can often drop below freezing, and snow fall is common. The summer temperatures usually average around 70° Fahrenheit. The local language in Liechtenstein is German, although many here will speak English, particularly those who work within the tourism industry and ski resorts. Much of the local culture is influenced by nearby Switzerland, Bavaria, and Austria, although the "Historical Society of the Principality of Liechtenstein" aims to preserved its own history and culture. The country is incredibly small, and you will most likely have to come from Switzerland as the nearest airport is Zürich Airport. Some of the most popular local cuisine includes Schnitzel (a kind of breaded meat), Rösti (grated and roasted potatoes), and Wurst (smoked sausage).
