What's Croatia Like?
Take a moment to find your ideal Croatian destination, and you could be exploring ancient ruins along the coast, shopping in the city, or sun bathing on one of the many beaches. The city of Dubrovnik, known as the Pearl of the Adriatic, offers many cultural attractions such as the historic Old Town ringed by ancient city walls, or the Placa Thoroughfare, better known as "King's Landing" in the Game of Thrones tv show. The capital city Zagreb, while still idyllic, is more of a shopping haven, and offers several malls including Avenue Mall, Centar Kaptol, and City Center One, which between the three of them have hundreds of stores from popular brands as well as more local specialty stores.
Tips for Getting Along with Locals in Croatia
Most of Croatia enjoys a continental climate, which results in warm summers and chilly, wet winters. Average afternoon temperatures during the summer months of June to August are often around 26°C, however it can sometimes exceed 40°C. Although the Croats of course speak Croatian, many of the locals in the larger cities in particular will likely speak a conversational level of English, however try not to expect this of them. Most of the tourist resorts are concentrated around the coast of the Adriatic Sea, however you can sneak away to the cities for a more authentic Croatian experience. Nautical tourism in particular is popular within Croatia, and if you find your sea legs you can enjoy taking a boat out of the many marinas for an afternoon on the sea. Croatia is a diverse and modern destination ideal for couples and families alike.
