Get To Know Reno - From Revitalizing Spas to Radical Arts Events

Find a place to stay

While it may be known for its casinos, Reno is more than a gambling town. Its location at the foot of the Sierra Mountains means you’ll be close to world-class skiing, golf courses, lakes, and white-water rivers, and its array of popular annual events means you’ll never want for entertainment.

More than gambling

After a stint at the slots, you can unwind at one of Reno’s luxurious spas. The Atlantis Casino Resort Spa offers distinctive treatments like the Pantai Luar body treatment that uses heated sachets of fragrant herbs and fruit to improve the appearance of skin. Replenish your body and soul at a gourmet restaurant like Romanza at the Peppermill Resort, which serves classic Italian dishes featuring fresh pastas made in-house. Then take in headline entertainment at a casino show room like the one at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino, that showcases musical legends like Billy Idol and Ricky Martin.

Reno’s Riverwalk District

Located in the center of downtown Reno, the newly built Riverwalk District features dozens of casual dining spots, bars, lounges, shops, boutiques, and galleries. You can stroll alongside the rolling Truckee River and look for souvenirs, jewelry, and chocolates, and pop into La Terre Verte boutique for a selection of eco-friendly gifts. Once a month, you can join the Wine Walk. For $20, you’ll get a glass and a wristband, and be able to sample wines while you shop at participating merchants.

Golfing around Reno

Reno has roughly 50 nearby golf courses, which makes finding time to tee off a breeze. You can drive 1 hour to the Edgewood Tahoe course in Stateline. With a beautiful view of the Sierra Mountains reflecting off the blue waters of Lake Tahoe, this is a favorite of pros and recreational golfers alike. For something closer, you can drive about 20 minutes to Lakes Course at Red Hawk Golf and Resort in Sparks. Along with its signature par 3 that plays entirely over water, it also has outstanding practice facilities, including a short-game area and a 10,000-square-foot putting green.

Annual Events and Festivals

Reno is home to a remarkable array of annual events and festivals. You can choose from the Reno Rodeo, Reno’s Championship Air Races that see planes race in laps around 2 tall pylons, Artown, a month-long art show, and Hot August Nights, America’s largest classic car event. Artists and free spirits flock here every August for Burning Man, an annual showcase of installations, music, and live performances that promote radical self-expression, and which takes place in the desert 100 miles north of the city.
