Hotel search

It's easy to spend all your time in Clearwater Beach snorkeling in the aquamarine waters of the gulf and working on your tan. And while the beaches are unquestionably beautiful, there's so much more to experience in the area. You could go kayaking at lush parks, visit the dolphins at the aquarium, or even take sailing lessons. Whether you're a shopaholic or a naturalist, there's something for you here.

Nature and wildlife in Clearwater Beach

A natural environment with mod cons waits at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Winter, a dolphin who sports a prosthetic tail and is star of the movie “Dolphin Tale,” calls the aquarium home, as do otters, rays, and sea turtles. Or you can take a 25-minute drive to Honeymoon Island State Park, known for it's less-populated beaches and nature trails. Here you can kayak in Pelican Cove and learn the interesting history behind the island's name. Pack your lunch, as the serene setting is ideal for a beachside picnic followed by seashell hunting.

By land or by sea

Floridians love a good bike ride, so if you want to see Clearwater Beach like a local, rent a beach cruiser from Fun Ride Rentals & Tours. Cruisers are ideal for leisurely rides in the sand, and you can explore the coastline beyond the resorts and popular beaches. Avid anglers can take a tour of the gulf waters with the crew of Queen Fleet Deep Sea Fishing. You can opt for a full- or half-day of casting for grouper, triggerfish, and sea bass. Didn't bring your tackle with you? That's okay. The crew has plenty to spare.

Paddleboard and sailing lessons

Interested in fun activities that double as workouts? Then paddleboarding is the name of your game. In addition to being an exciting means of exploring the waterways of Clearwater Beach, it's also a great way to shape up your abdominal muscles. Tampa Bay SUP offers lessons and rentals, so experts and novices alike can take part in the fun. If learning to sail has always been your dream, Clearwater Community Sailing Center has you covered. You can learn the ropes from seasoned instructors by yourself or with a group of friends before taking your first solo sail.

Greek culture in Florida

You can hop aboard the “Jolly Trolley” and ride to nearby Tarpon Springs. This city is famed for its Greek community, whose ancestors made their living harvesting sea sponges. You can immerse yourself in the city's culture and explore the restaurants and shops lining Dodecanese Boulevard in the Tarpon Springs Sponge Docks area.

Shopping spree day trips

Most of the shopping you'll find in the immediate vicinity will be beach-centric. If your tastes lean more towards upscale fashion, you'll need to take a short road trip. In about a 20-minute drive, you can reach the shops of Clearwater's Westfield Countryside, where you can browse the racks of Macy's or treat your feet at ALDO. Overheated from shopping? Try out the indoor ice skating rink. Those up for a slightly longer trip can drive roughly 35 minutes to International Plaza and Bay Street. Here you can shop until you drop in 200 stores, including Apple, Burberry, and Gucci.
