Gay Nightclubs in Marrakech

Hotel search

Gay and lesbian tourists head for Marrakech because of its nightlife and just being able to enjoy themselves without condemnation and recrimination for following the gay and lesbian lifestyle. Here are a few suggestions based on what prior international travelers have mentioned.
Marrakech is also known as Marrakesh and is Morocco’s 3 rd largest city. It is divided into two distinct districts – the historical city known as the Medina and the newer European district called the Gueliz or Ville Nouvelle. The narrow intertwining passageways and the many local shops are the key features of the Medina. Conversely, Gueliz is much more modern and features big brand stores, fast food chains, and numerous modern restaurants.

Although there is no recognized gay community and establishments, many of them are labeled as being “ gay-friendly” in nature. In fact, at one time, homosexuality was illegal in Morocco. Suffice it to say, many gay and lesbian tourists target Marrakech because of its nightlife and just being able to enjoy themselves without condemnation and recrimination for following the gay and lesbian lifestyle. Here are a few suggestions based on what prior international travelers have mentioned.

Comptoir Darna – locals and tourists both consider this establishment as the hippest spot in town. It is a gay-friendly venue and you will find the largest mix of gays and straights here. You can dance to the beat of traditional North African music, sip on any one of the numerous signature alcoholic beverages, and probably spend the evening with a complete stranger. You may even make a few new friends over the course of the evening.

Le Diamant Noir – the hot spot of the modernized Gueliz sector of town. This is considered the classic late evening meeting place for locals and tourists alike. As a result, you’ll no doubt see a widely varied crowd of gays and straights like you would at the night spot mentioned above. Many aspiring models and tons of students love this establishment so be prepared for noisy crowds on a fairly regular basis. Again, this night spot is labeled as being gay-friendly in nature, but the format is not 100% gay and lesbian.

Pacha Marrakech – this club is renowned amongst international circles as being the #1 place for all-night dancing in the city of Marrakech. This is another establishment that witnesses large crowds on a regular basis and being a gay-friendly location, same-sex dancing is not uncommon.

These are the primary venues that gays and lesbians enjoy when visiting Marrakech, but we also wanted to mention the primary gay-friendly hotels available in the city.
