Certainly one of the top hotels in Oviedo. I thought it would be more centrally located to monuments, etc but it was about 8 blocks to the cathedral area. Very staid, catering mainly to well to do older Spaniards. I spent three nights over a weekend. Very boring clientele. Bar and restaurant always empty and closed Sunday and Monday. The room is beautiful and thanks for the upgrade. Good internet. Sunday was absolutely boring. Great breakfast but a single business traveler like me prefers more of a cafeteria or restaurant at night and the staff was too focused on everything else but me. The neighborhood is very upscale full of boutiques but the restaurants and bars are clear across town. Even grocery stores close on Sundays in Oviedo. There is a Corte Ingles three blocks away. Train/bus station is only five blocks away but if you have luggage the taxi is 4 euros. I think the ideal hotel in Oviedo would be closer to the Cathedral area where all the bars are located. I thought this hotel was a good value for a 4/5 star property when you consider the breakfast and internet was included. This could easily be another 30-40 dollars at other properties. The area near the cathedral has lots and lots of cafes with internet and are a good value.”
Hotel was lovely on the inside. Staff also spoke English. AMAZING restaurant in the hotel, one of the best meals I had on my entire trip. Breakfast/brunch is the best, could not have asked for more. 10-15 minute walk to the historic old town..”
I thought the hotel was very nice. It was only about a 5 minute walk from the old town of Aviles. The staff was friendly and very helpful. They gave us a map of Aviles with the hotel clearly located. They told us about must see places in the area and then explained where how to get there. The room was well worth the money. The area around the hotel was nice. There are a few parks right outside the hotel. I would stay there again. The cons were not that bad. The hotel staff did not speak much English, but they were very patient with my husband and my decant Spanish. Also the bed was really really firm. But they offer a variety of different over sized pillows at the front desk. In streets in Aviles are not all labeled clearly. When we arrived from the airport it was dark and we had a difficult time finding the hotel, even though the hotel was only about 8 minutes from the bus station. Make sure you have a good map, not just some written directions, before you arrive.”
Fantastic location. Parking right underneath it practically. Great hotel, stay there. Bad: 1) Wifi is 12 extra and is horrible. Not even worth it. 2)Dont eat at its very elegant looking restaurant. The lobster soup I had to send back, and I never do that. Tasted like saltwater and the clams werent even opened (meaning they werent fresh or he didnt cook them long enough). The Stew was almost as bad but since I had no other choice, I had to power through it. Disgusting. Keep in mind I was there in February, and no one was in the restaurant but me. Maybe its better when they actually have people to serve food too.”
The Silken Hotel Gijon is currently across from a construction site...of what is going to be a new train station. When it is opposite the train station it will have everything; only a few blocks from the beach, close to the railway museum and close to the bus station (fifteen minutes walk with suitcases). I appreciated the free high speed internet (with ethernet cable provided by the desk), and the nice toiletries. The slot for the key card for the light was partly broken, but it was fixed the second or third day of my stay, and the staff were uniformly pleasant and helpful. Overall, a good hotel for a good value.”
A very well located hotel across from a nice park and five minutes walk from the beach. Good restaurants and siderias close by. Friendly staff and a very good buffett breakfast. No hestiation in recommending.”
Great hotel - great value. Helpful staff. Convenient location.....a definite winner.”
