The Palms Cliff House Inn

Location. The Palms Cliff House Inn sits atop a 100-foot ocean cliff on the Big Island in Honomu, Hawaii. The town of Honomu is a charming small plantation village with several small local restaurants, galleries, shops, a bakery and a small general store, located one mile away. Akaka Falls State Park and Kahuna Falls are two miles from the property. Kolekole Beach Park is two miles away. The inn is five miles from the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden and Laupahoehoe Park.

Features. Located on a three-and-one-half-acre secluded estate, The Palms Cliff House Inn is set amidst tropical gardens, macadamia nut trees and banana plants overlooking the Pohakumanu Bay. A lava-rock wall separates the 100-foot cliff from the gardens. On the main lanai, the inn provides breakfasts, including specialty dishes, tropical juices and fruits, egg dishes, meat, muffins and pastries (fees apply). The bed and breakfast also offers breakfasts for late risers. A gas barbecue grill with a side burner is available for rent. The video lending library features over 600 DVDs. A lava-rock path leads to an outdoor spa tub surrounded by gardens.

Guestrooms. Suites at The Palms Cliff House Inn offer furnished, private lanais with views of the ocean. Beds feature triple sheeting, custom bedding and a pillow menu. The inn provides mini fridges in all suites. All accommodations feature ceiling fans, sliding doors with screens opening out onto the lanais, and louvered bathroom windows for cross-ventilation from the gentle ocean breezes. Air conditioning is only available in the second-floor suites. Suites are equipped with televisions, DVD players, dial-up Internet access and in-room safes. All accommodations offer private bathrooms with marble showers and tropical spa bath products. Corner suites feature gas fireplaces, sitting areas and two-person jetted tubs located in round alcoves that overlook the ocean. Open-air yoga classes and massages are available on lanais upon request for a fee. Local calls are complimentary.

Expert Tip. Akaka Falls, a two-mile drive plus a one-half mile hike from the inn, drops 442 feet into a pool of water. The paved path to the falls goes through dense tropical vegetation, and the air is filled with the fragrance of tropical flowers and vines. The 400-foot Kahuna Falls is adjacent to Akaka Falls.

Guestrooms, on two floors, have exterior access and no elevators.

First-floor rooms are not air conditioned, but do provide ceiling fans. Upon request, floor fans are also available.

The minimum check-in age is 21.

The maximum age for children to stay free in room with parent/guardian is 10.

Food service is not available on Christmas Day or New Year's Day.

The Front Desk is open from 9 AM to 5 PM; however, staff is available 24 hours a day.
