Description
See more detailsLocation. The Speedwell Forge B&B is located in Lititz, Pa., in Amish country. Amish crafts, food and furniture are accessible in the surrounding 12 miles at the Amish Country Gazebos, Peaceful Valley Furniture and Peaceful Valley Dragon Market.
Features. Set on 120 acres, this Colonial- style home, built in the 1760s, is characterized by thick stone walls and deep-paneled windows. Complimentary three-course breakfasts are served daily in the dining room under a crystal chandelier. Fresh-baked desserts are offered each evening. A conference room and complimentary wireless Internet access are available. Vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors and restored antique furniture are featured throughout the house. The inn includes a book and video library. Though the property sat vacant from 1986 until 2005, it now holds a 22-acre wolf sanctuary and a 70-acre corn field. Pets are not allowed at this property.
Guestrooms. Guestrooms are decorated in country Colonial style with white trim and antiques, including traveling trunks and water pitcher vases. Beds are dressed with authentic Amish quilts. All accommodations include private bathrooms. Select rooms offer fireplaces and jetted tubs. The "Bill" and "Kathryn" rooms feature antique canopy or rope beds. The private cottage, Paymaster's Office, boasts a vaulted ceiling and wooden interior, and offers a view of the pickup window where iron workers used to collect their wages. The Summer Kitchen Suite features a gas fireplace, a kitchenette and wolf-themed decorations.
Expert Tip. Since being built, Speedwell Forge has been an iron forge, a horse-breeding farm and a dairy farm. From 1760 to 1942 it was continuously owned by one family.
