Mont Rest Inn

Location. Nestled halfway up a nine-acre wooded bluff, Mont Rest is positioned on the Mississippi River in Bellevue, Iowa. Located near two of the largest gambling boats on the Mississippi, this bed and breakfast is just one mile from the Bellevue State Park. Across the river is the Savanna Army Depot. Within easy walking distance are a variety of restaurants and shops.

Hotel Features. Once referred to as "the castle" by residents of Bellevue, Mont Rest towers over the Mississippi River in stately elegance. Built in 1893 by a young land developer and entrepreneur, this bed and breakfast has a rich and varied history. Though much of the original decor and furnishings were destroyed in a fire, vintage woodwork and chandeliers still grace the property, and furniture acquired through painstaking worldwide searches by the current innkeeper graces each room in Mont Rest. Services at this bed and breakfast include concierge service, in-room massages, reflexology. Complimentary beverages are included.

Guestrooms. Complemented with fresh flowers and imported chocolates, the 12 guestrooms of Mont Rest include a private bathroom with heated towel bars, Egyptian cotton towels, and robes. All guestrooms are individually decorated and feature their own themes. Some offer private whirlpool baths and fireplaces. Antique oak and brass furniture and/or English romantic, Victorian and Art Nouveaux decor are prevalent in guest rooms.

Expert Tip. The circular room at the top of Mont Rest was designed to house high-stakes poker games, which were illegal when the house was erected in the nineteenth century.
