    This hotel surprised me. Although it's rated only 2 stars, it had amenities (like a bathtub) that some 3 star hotels don't have. It was well located for what I needed, close to the main route between the airport and downtown. It's a bit worn down, but for the money it was great.

The VIP Inn Saldanha is a simple modern hotel located in Lisbon's new financial district next to the Saldanha building, 500 metres from the metro station. The 54 air- conditioned guestrooms are laid out over six floors and have neutral decor and functional furnishings. All are equipped with satellite television, direct-dial phones, safes (free) and blackout drapes. Private bathrooms include bidets. Wake-up calls are available on request.

Guests benefit from a 24-hour front desk where the multilingual staff can help with advice about sightseeing in Lisbon. There is a dining room where breakfast is served each morning. For a restyle or trim, the hotel also has a hair salon in the building; pay parking is available nearby. Although there is no restaurant or bar on site, there are plenty of dining options in the surrounding area. Nearby attractions include the baroque- inspired Eduardo VII Park, 600 metres from the hotel, the 16th century Municipal Library (900 metres away) and the splendid art collection of the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, one kilometre away. The nearest metro station is Saldanha, 500 metres from the hotel. Lisbon (Portela) Airport is approximately five kilometres away, an approximate driving time of 15 minutes.
