The FDR is a small and comfortable resort with good amenities. It is right on Runaway Bay, which is really idyllic. Older style of buliding with great large balconies and some serious charm. They have lots of activities on which you can choose to participate in or which are also easy to avoid if you prefer (as we did). Our Nanny was wonderful!!!! Made it all worthwhile. The Kids Klub, playground and arts and craft and sheltered beach were great for our 17 mth old daughter. The beach at the adjoining resort is a must and locals there offer jet skis, horses and shopping. Sadly the resort food is only average, even with the choice of 3 restaurants and a beach cafe. They have wine, but only type of red and white. Lots of local rum and cocktails available though. Not enough pool/beach towels. We got put into a 1BR rather than our booked 2BR and although we got moved to a 2BR, we did not end up with our booked ocean front apartment, and we had to follow up to get the crib delivered. If going for a 2BR request the 2 floor version if you like to have some space and do not mind the stairs (which have child proof gates) - these units are great. All the staff are really friendly and try to help as best they can, but there do not appear to be any systems resulting in silly errors like confusing taxi times or running out of tickets for the Dunns River Waterfalls Trip (which is great fun but daunting and not good for those like me who do not like heights, and not good for really young kids - you actually climb up through the waterfall with your only safety being water shoes and holding hands in a line, you get drenched). Take US$, it is preferred over local $$. Take smaller denominations for giving out plenty of tips. The resort caters well for its target market of families. Only a 3 star resort at most but for that, good fun and good value.
