    High points: excellent front desk service, condo style hotel (full kitchen, 2 bathrooms, living room, bedroom, washer and dryer, and outdoor grill) with hotel amenities (maid service, detergent, shampoo, lotion, etc.), spacious, clean, beautiful pool (a little small), plenty of parking. Low points: no beach view from our room, beach is not easily accessible by foot, a few bugs (like 4 total over 4 days). Overall, this condo-style hotel was awesome for the price, especially in Maui.

Location. The Outrigger Palms at Wailea is located less than one-half mile from Wailea beaches, shops and restaurants on the island of Maui in the Hawaiian islands. This condominium complex stands at the entrance to Wailea and is positioned three miles from downtown Kihei.

Features. This Mediterranean-style complex is surrounded by hillside gardens sculpted into 10 tropical acres. Barbecue grills are available with select units, and fees may apply. The outdoor pool is fancifully constructed in the shape of a whale and is surrounded by a stone sundeck with a spa tub and lounge chairs. A concierge offers tour, entertainment and dining suggestions. Parking is complimentary. Wireless Internet access is complimentary in public areas.

Guestrooms. The smoke-free Outrigger Palms at Wailea offers 150 guest villas arranged in 23, two-story buildings with stairway access only. These units are individually decorated, but the majority feature island décor, sunken living rooms and private, furnished balconies. Kitchens feature refrigerators, microwave ovens, stoves, dishwashers, coffeemakers, cookware and dinnerware. Modern enhancements include cable television and DVD players. In-room safes are complimentary. Dial-up Internet access is available for a fee.

Expert Tip. Shopping convenience is one-half mile away at the Shops at Wailea. This contemporary venue features a complete range of boutiques from Gucci and Tiffany's to Banana Republic and the Gap. Four restaurants include Tommy Bahama's Tropical Café and Ruth's Chris Steak House.
